        With Jae Seo on the Dodgers and Aaron Heilman penciled in for a relief role, Minaya figured the Mets could use an experienced pitcher with the flexibility of filling two roles. One person familiar with Iriki said his two best pitches are a fastball that hits 93 mph and a plus-curveball, but he also throws a slider, changeup and shuto -- a popular pitch in Japan that darts down and away from righthanded hitters

                  I'm glad I don't have to watch Luis Rivas in Minnesota anymore. The only bright side for Tampa Bay, is that Luis Rivas has speed. He strikes out a lot and has poor defensive skills.

                    With a Scheduled 3PM (EST) News Conference Today...

                    The New York Mets will announce that SP Kris Benson has been traded to The Baltimore Orioles for RP Jorge Julio and SP John Maine.

                    ::sidebar::

                    I am a Mets fan in particular, but a true baseball fan in general. Thanks to the Major League Package via cable, I watch as many games as I can.

                    I've seen Julio pitch many times previously...mostly in games against the Yankees. I'mnot saying his demeanor will be the same against other clubs, but...there were a few games this past season when Mazzilli brought him in to hold a lead and less than an inning later, Mazzilli--with a total look of disgust on his face--had to trek back out to the mound to remove his azz.

                    Virtually everytime he clearly pitches, it appears he pitches scared. He doesn't have the best control...and at times, he's not even close. Don't know if the Mets' pitching coach-Mr. Fix-It (lol), can turn his control issues around. But I know this. It won't take long for the Shea boobird faithful to make Armando Beneitez comparisons if he doesn't get the job done.

                    Regarding Maine, he has a nice, enocuraging upside. He looks to fit in as a number 3 or number 4 starter in a rotation someday. While not overpowering (fastball-92/93 mph, slider, curve & change), he gets his innings in. He didn't do too bad with the Orioles in limited action in 2005; although his walks and strikeouts wre almost the same totals. His minor league record (AAA), was: 6-11/4.56/23G/23GS/128IP/42BB/111K's/.257BAA

                    I'm sure the Mets saved or will save some money off of their payroll with this deal AND...they got rid of Anna Benson, her Howard Stern appearances, hot calendar photographs and her big mouth. It'll be interesting to see how SHE plays in Baltimore...lmaoooooooooo

                    Contrary to what you may have heard about the Mets ownership being a businesslike, but liberal organization, they Mets ownership are in truth, pretty conservative.

                    peace!

                          I don't have a problem with this at all, I'm gald there giving Heilman a true shot at starting, I also think Heilman had better stuff then Benson. Good move in my mind.

                            The Red Sox are really stacking up on mediocre infielders.
