At the same time the White Sox can't go into negotiations trying to lowball him.. if the Sox want him back.. act like you want him and show him the money.

Man, I used to love Maggs. O-WEE-O, Maaaagglio. I was sad to see him leave and wish he was on this team. Same goes for Carlos Lee, that was my guy to.

Lets not forget how this city works. We trade away talent like Chicago is farm system. I have no doubt in my mind that some team will throw a few truckloads of cash at him and Chicago will be hesitant at matching the offer.

The White Sox will really found out how bad Kornerko wants to comeback after the WS is over. They have a 15 day exclusive window to sign him.

If Korenko doesn't want to seriously get a deal done, then there's a chance he will bolt like Billy Wagner.

You guys dont understand, read my post on the 3rd or 4th page. After this season, the Sox will have so much money to spend. Frank Thomas and El Duque has big chances that they wont come back next year. Thomas himself after he is cut, will free up a few millions of dollars.

I think if Konerko wanted to stay with the White Sox that much, he'd already be signed. Usually when players get to free agency, it's because they want to test free agency. Obviously if the White Sox offer him a fair deal in comparison to what other teams offer, he'll probably stay but I doubt they sign him before he becomes a FA.

I do understand. I just hope Jerry doesn't revert back to being Jerry. Pay the guy already. The Sox becoming a perennial winner can only help his bottom line.

He should have already had this lesson with the Bulls.

Hopefully things turn out for the best.

How many more years does he have on his contract?

Just curious because when he's cut, the Sox will still have to pay him unless they can get out of his contract due to injury. At least I'm pretty sure that's how it is and I think Frank and the Sox would have to agree to a reduced rate.

It's one of the things I dislike about baseball contracts. They're guaranteed...unlike football where if you cut a guy, all the team has to pay is the bonus.

I know when the Pirates cut Derek Bell a few years ago, they had to finish paying off his ridiculous contract the next year.

According to Hardball Dollars he has a $12.5mil option for 2006 with a $3.5m buyout.

Ahh, thanks - I forgot that putting buyouts into contracts is almost a regular practice now. Saving 9 MIL will help.

I should've figured the Pirates were too stupid back then to put a buyout into Bell's contract!

It's actually confusing in this case because it has his salary listed for 2006 (10m) then lists the option and buyout under the notes section. Usually if there's an option, they don't list the salary for that year until the option has been exercised. It might just be deferred money that he's owed in 2006.

EDIT - Nevermind. The 10m is a player option that Thomas has. If he exercises that, the team can buy him out for 3.5m which is a savings of 6.5m.

Konerko rejected a 5-year, $65 mil offer from the Orioles. It's said that the Angels have offered him a 5-year, $60 mil offer..
