Theo Epstein Resigns as Red Sox GM

BREAKING SPORTS NEWS: Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein has resigned, according to news reports from WBZ and WHDH-TV

That's right. Resigned, not re-signed. This is shocking.

A little more info from boston.com

Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein has declined the club's offer of a three-year extension of his contract, and will leave the organization. The Red Sox announced this evening that Epstein will continue to work with the club for several days "to assist in an orderly transition and to prepare further for the upcoming GM meetings and other off-season activities."

My guess is the Red Sox leaked that to put pressure on Theo, which obviously didn't work.

                  Wow...this sucks.

The assistant Gm's gone, and now Theo's gone. Ouch.

Oh and can we fire Lucchino for not giving this man whatever the eff he wanted? Seriously...Theo deserves every single penny he asked for, he turned this organization around, at the major league level and the minor leagues.

                    I hope Larry Lucchino dies

                    And

Would it be in poor taste (slight exageration) if I were to foresake the Sox for a while and just follow Theo? Where ever he may go? It's absoulutely disgusting that its come down to this.

And that total shambag POS LL and John Henry showed their true colors with this move, like it hasn't been apparent with the complete whoring of everything they can slap a Red Sox logo on. Revenue is hell of a lot more important than what is good for the team. Thats why we still have the devil himself and that's why Theo will be off to turn around another franchise.

What is going on???? I turned on WEEI and they're talking about a huge breach between Lucchino and Dan Shaughnessy about something he wrote/leaked and the power struggle between Lucchino and Epstein that may have led Theo to jump ship. This thing stinks, and it may take some time to find out why. First impression...fire Lucchino and boycott the Globe!!!

This is horrible, horrible, horrible news...

And what is the over/under on days remaining of Manny in Boston? Because I am sure with LL out to search for a new GM, he'll make sure to find one that agrees with trading Manny well before he is hired.

He'll be gone in a matter of days/weeks. Whatever GM Larry bings in will already know he either trades Manny or is fired shortly.

Guess I should have started "Mind Games" by Prospectus before Theo's contract expired...while it had relevance and I still believed in the direction of this ball team...
