Jeff won't build a stadium on his own, because if he did he would be using his own money, and hoping beyond hope it would be filled every night. Which even when we have great teams not a ton of people show up. So he would be losing for building it, and ticket sales. I wouldn't want to take that risk either. Just build for the future, and keep some of your younger players ala D-Train and Miguel in the fold for years to come. I see this different from the Expos situation.
It's slightly different to the Expos situation but check this. Loria wanted a new stadium for the Expos, but Montreal wouldn't give it to him or help him in anyway..so after that he basically said screw Montreal and started shipping off Star talent and try to build with Young Talent like Vlad and Vazquez just to name 2 big players like the Marlins have Willis and Cabrera...Starting to sound a little similar?

In 03 we were built around young players, and not hardly any power guys. We did quite well then didn't we? I'm not saying we win the WS next year, because that is a homer statement and stupid. In a few years with the young talent we are stock piling we could contend again. Losing Beckett hurts a bit, but he's always on the DL for blisters....Jason Vargas is a up and coming pitcher, as well as Olsen. I don't think it's doomsday like a lot of people are thinking by looking at this trade.
