New Burnett info- Looks like it's down to Jays and Cards

The Cardinals and Burnett have an agreement in place. It could be four years plus an option. But it has not been finalized by Burnett. The Cardinals expect a final answer prior to the Winter Meetings, which don't officially begin until next Monday. However, if a Baltimore (the home area of Burnett's wife) or Toronto steps in with a better deal in the meantime, all bets could be off.
and here's what is being said at scout.com's blue jay affiliate, inside the dome:
The Cardinals had the top offer on the table as of last night. It was a four-year deal with a fifth option year. I still believe it will take five guaranteed years to sign Burnett, and in the end I expect him to get five years worth over $50mil. And let me add this, the Jays are expected to make A.J. an offer today.
Wild card that could tip this in st louis' favor: Burnett's wife reportedly does not like the city of Toronto at all. Don't know why, if it's the weather or the funky Canadian coins or what, she just does not want to live there. At least, that's the word. She is from Baltimore -- whose Baseball team, let's not forget, originally came from St Louis . . . . .

    A.J. Burnett
Burnett may be the most talented sub-.500 pitcher to hit the free-agent market in years -- at least in his mind and his agent's. But he's still not signed.

The Jays seem willing to give five years to Burnett, maybe at as much as $10 million per year. The Cardinals reportedly have a four-year offer out for him at $10 million a year. That's a ton of money for a pitcher who has a 49-50 career record.

Still, Burnett and agent Darek Braunecker may be holding out for even more cash. The only free-agent starter to sign so far this winter, Esteban Loaiza, pulled down more than $7 million per in a surprising three-year deal with the A's. And Loaiza is about six years older than Burnett.

    This was from SI.com
    ----------------------------

The Blue Jays have reportedly offered free-agent RHP A.J. Burnett a five-year deal worth nearly $12 million per season. Meanwhile, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch writes that the Cardinals have offered him a four-year deal worth roughly $10 million per season…

-I just hope with all this new info leaking out, he will make a decision by Monday.

My Cardinal buddy will be happy if he signs with the Cards.

JP was quoted in a recent interview as saying he will not give Burnett 12 million a year, so I doubt the report of the Toronto offerring that is legit.

I'll go with what Blair is saying because he's by far the best Jays reporter. He reported a few days ago AJ hadn't recieved a 5 year deal from any team. It looked like his agent was just trying to drive up the price by saying he had mutiple 5 year offers.

Damn Burnett's wife sounds like a real bitch.

Well I hope that the Jays could get him because i've heard one of the backup plans is Kenny Freakin' Rogers I don't want a nutcase, aging pitcher on my staff.

If Burnett goes elsewhere I just hope it won't be in the AL East.

Burnett's wife is a bitch because she doesn't want to live in Toronto?

              Sounds pretty smart to me.

Haha, Rogers isn't aging, he is already aged.

I'm really hoping the Jays can sign him so the dang Cards don't get him.

Sour grapes my man. I have lived here all my life and I think Toronto is one of the 5 best cities in the world.

Burnett will sign with the Cards.....

If they add a 5th year, which they are reluctant to do.

InsideTheDome.com is reporting that Ricciardi has now set his sights on Barry Zito, and will deal anyone -- including Vernon Wells -- to land him. Ricciardi leaves tonight (Sunday) for the GM Meetings and will meet with every major league club over the next few days. The Mets are named as the team to beat for Zito.

ITD.com is also reporting that AJ Burnett is waiting for Nats' GM Jim Bowden to get back to them on Washington's payroll numbers for 2006. Bowden will be given the final number on Monday morning. Both the Jays and the Cardinals have become frustrated with Burnett's agent and have begun looking elsewhere. Toronto's offer reportedly expired on Friday night with St. Louis' best offer expiring last night. Here is a quote from one of ITD's sources that sums up the situation:

“His wife prefers for her husband to sign with Washington” a source familiar with the negotiations told InsideTheDome. “She does not like planes and would not be comfortable living in Toronto or St. Louis for five years.”

“If his wife didn't have those concerns, he would have been a Blue Jay last week” one baseball official told us Saturday evening. “A.J. is a family man and is putting his family in front of himself at this point.”

ITD also states that Ricciardi is looking to deal Batista (no big surprise) and would gladly throw in Ted Lilly if it would rid him of Eric Hinske. Ricciardi has apparently "soured" on Lilly. Bush and Rios could also be dealt as a package.

-Good, I'm sick of AJ and his rediculous demands. I'm willing to do a Wells for Zito and Kotsay deal in a second.

The A's want a middle of the lineup type hitter for Zito. Unless they are willing to give up Lee or Ramirez(which would not be smart), then I don't see how the Cubs can acquire him.
