Yeah, I'm definately sticking with ATL. The Mets don't have the pitching IMO to win the NL East. Unless Trachsel and Glavine have stand out years, which isn't something I'd put my money on."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: New Burnett info- Looks like it's down to Jays and Cards
If the Mets get Manny, they will have enough hitting to make up for below average pitching. I mean have you checked out their lineup lately? By the way, congrats to the Jays for getting AJ. With their young pitching you never know if it will click and they will make the playoffs. But if they do make the playoffs, they will most likely meet a certain World Series Champion from a certain city home to the best football team in all the land...DA Bears.Comment

Oh well, I was hoping AJ would go to a winner since he is on my keeper league, but part of me is glad the Cards didn't spend that much on him. He obviously wanted the money more than he wanted to win so I guess good for him and his agent for getting what he wanted.PSN: sportdan30

I'm over joyed he didn't sign with the Cardinals. Reminds me of the Mike Hampton sweepstakes a few years back. This Cardinal fan is happy! Now, lets resign Grudz and get ourselves an outfielder. Then shore up the bullpen.Comment

Re: New Burnett info- Looks like it's down to Jays and Cards
Good job JP! It's about time the Jays became true contenders again.
There were three players who were targeted in the offseason: Ryan, Burnett, and Brian Giles. The Jays managed to get two of them. Usually, the Jays manage to be #2 for a bunch of free agents', and never sign them. This signals a good change for the franchise.
Now, some people say that the Jays have not addressed the root of the problem, their lack of hitting, and more specifically, their lack of power. This is definitely true, as the Jays were near the bottom of the MLB in SLG%. However, the Jays were actually 12th in OPB, which pleases me. As well, there are many players who are going to be traded.
The Jays, firstly, have a conglomerate of outfielders. Reed Johnson, Frank Catalanotto, and Alex Rios are all tradeable. Rios is the brightest prospect out of all of them, and player who, although he has struggled during his first tour of the majors, can hit .300 with 20 HR's and 20 SB. Johnson is a very servicable 4th outfielder, and is a fan favourite, while Cat is a career .300 hitter.
Also, there are many infielders who the Jays can let go. Hinske, although he has a big contract, is a player who may return to 2002 form (although he won't, that's just a selling point). Orlando Hudson can play gold-glove D, and can be had for a pitcher. The fact is, the Jays have many position players to trade in a package deal for a better hitter.
However, there is no position where the Jays are more "stacked," shall we say, than at the pitching position. Miguel Batista will be traded, probably for a hitter. As well, young pitchers David Bush, Brandon League, and possibly Dustin McGowan are on the block.
So, there are many possible trades for the Jays. I, as a Jay fan, while I may be a bit biased, am not worried about the fact that the Jays have not signed a hitter. I feel that we have adequate depth to trade for a Kevin Mench, a Lyle Overbay, or even a Bobby Abreu.
