Well, if it's down to just the Pads and Indians...then it looks like Giles will be able to bring him back to SD.

I don't like seeing my two favorite teams fighting over players. I say they should share. The Padres got Giles, so the Indians can get Hoffman

I'd like to see Hofman back in San Diego, but if the Indians got him, their pitching would be damn near invincible.

They lost Millwood, Wickman, and Howry, so I see their pitching getting worse

              - Wickman may still resign, and if he doesn't, we may get Hoffman or try to trade for Danny Baez

              - Milwood has been replaced by Byrd

              - We have some minor leaguers to replace Howry

I don't see Hoffman signing with the Tribe if Wickman doesn't and Wickman is def. better than Baez. I would take Millwood over Byrd. Howry was one of the best Setup men in the MLB last year, so I don't see a minor leaguer doing what he did last year. I think he had 32 holds last year.

Well, Wickman is better than Baez, but Baez would be better in the long run. Milwood is better than Byrd, but not a ton. And obviously Howry's production isn't going to be duplicated, but there are some solid bullpen guys in the system, trust me on that one. Shapiro tries to keep a balance of winning now and building for the future, and I think he's gonna keep that up this off season.

                    Apparently

                    Kazuhito Tadano
                    Arthur Rhodes
                    David Riske
                    Rafael Betancourt

all with under a 4 ERA last year. Hell, even Matt Miller was good.

they've got some decent relievers, NOT counting the ones coming up from the minors. Add Hoffman to that staff, with a solid 4 punch lineup of Sabathia, Westbrook, Lee, and Byrd, and you've got one of the best pitching staffs in the majors.

Yeah, its still gonna be good, but obviously you're gonna take a hit when you lose the SP w/ the best ERA in the AL and one of the best setup men in the AL, but its not like they're tumbling downhill rapidly. I know you (soxboy7) feel all high and mighty as a White Sox fan and think the Indians have nothing on the White Sox, but we weren't that far behind you guys this past season. Sure we're gonna have difficulties passing you guys this season cause you guys have an awesome team, but we've improved quite a bit over the past few seasons and we're only gonna keep maturing & improving

When is Adam Miller gonna be ready? He is one of the top pitching prospects in America.

Ok, Tadano pitched in ONE game, so his ERA doesn't really count. However looking at their pen it does look good. But the lowest ERA of any returning starter is almost 4. Even with a closer they can't be considered one of the best staffs in the majors.

I don't think you'll see him this year unless he amazes people in the minors. I think 2007 is probably more realistic
