I say the Padres should just wait out. There's no point to give up Mark Loretta for David Wells and some other guy.

The Indians met Monday morning with Rick Thurman, the representative for Trevor Hoffman, and appear ready to sign the free-agent closer to a three-year deal in the $21 million to $24 million range. Hoffman is expected to take a physical for the Indians on Tuesday.

I can see the Padres matching that.

The Padres should be giving Hoffman their third offer to him, it'll probably be about the same amount per year. I don't know if they'll go two years or three years.

Hmm, well, I don't really want the Indians to sign him for three years cause that seems a bit long for a 38 year-old.

2 with a club option for a 3rd would get it done I think. $7 million a year would be reasosnable considering his value as a player and to the city. If he walks this will be a PR nightmare for the Pads.

Hmm, I can deal with a 3 year deal if we can get about 2 good postseasons out of him. I just want to see some guys like Andrew Brown get a shot, Howry was great, but I think we have some guys that can at least put up half of his numbers.

Will it though? I mean, will people from San Diego storm the team offices with pitchforks and torches? I can't see people from San Diego getting pissed off at this kind of thing. It's..San Diego. You simply can not be pissed off at this kind of thing when it's 70 degrees outside and good looking girls are crawling everywhere.

                      Re: Hoffman Situation Update

Well, the Padres have requested a little more time to offer Hoffman a contract that is similar to what the Indians are offering, as the Padres will meet with Hoffman's agent tonight. So Hoffman's decision will not be known until tomorrow.

Hoffman has re-signed with the Padres to a two-year contract with a third year option. The Padres offer offered less guaranteed money than the Cleveland Indians. The Mighty 1090 reported this. No links available at the moment.

If this is true, the Indians are really gonna need to try to re-sign Wickman.
