The Orioles are right there with the Devil Rays in terms of asking price. If Tejada really wants out then trading him for Manny, Clement, and cash is a damn good deal for them. They replace all of Tejada's offense and then some and add a solid starter. The only thing they lose is defense at shortstop and Manny is probably worse in the field than whoever they plan on playing in left or right next year. I'd say that deal is good for both sides as both teams get rid of a disgruntled star and the Red Sox free up a rotation spot of Papelbon. If the O's insist on adding Lester or Papelbon to the deal then it won't happen, just like it may not happen if the Red Sox insist on including Markakis.

Re: Tejada wants out of Baltimore
From ESPN today...
"Talks between the Red Sox and Orioles about a Manny Ramirez-Miguel Tejada trade have stalled, the Boston Herald reports. The Red Sox have offered Ramirez and pitcher Matt Clement, but the Orioles want third base prospect Andy Marte in the deal. At least two teams, the Herald reports, have offered the Orioles a more attractive package."
Yeah, oooook. If two teams want to top that offer WITHOUT the absurd request of adding Marte, knock yourselves out...literally!!

Re: Tejada wants out of Baltimore
I've really grown tired of these off season multi-month melodramas. I really hope these teams **** or get off the pot. Just make up yer ******* minds already, stop circling the wagons, and decide if it's gonna happen or not.
I'm inclined to believe that nothing happens because it would be too complicated for anything to ever take place. Sometimes the answer is the most obvious and easiest to comprehend. Occam's razor here.
In any event, wake me up when something is actually official.Comment

Originally posted by JJLinnYeah, because Tejada is ONLY the 1st-3rd best player in baseball, and giving up a top prospect along with a #4 starter and a 34 year old outfielder for someone like that just isn't worth it. The Red Sox will still be getting fleeced...

Originally posted by camulosYou conveniently leave out that the OF is one of the best hitters in baseball, and a better hitter than what they'd be getting in return. Or that the #4 starter would have been 2nd on the Orioles in Wins, ERA and K's. The Red Sox would clearly be getting fleeced in that deal.
The Cubs would never get Bedard, but the O's actually asked for Carlos Zambrano AND Felix Pie in a deal for Tejada. That's straight nutty...you just can't get a team's best player who's entering his prime as a dominant ace + their best prospect.Comment

Re: Tejada wants out of Baltimore
If Tejada gets traded it's not going to be to Boston. If the Orioles and Red Sox were really serious about dealing with eachother something would have happend by now.
It is more likely the Orioles will try and trade Tejada out of their division, either to the Angels for rumored Orlando Cabrera and Darin Erstad or out of the AL all together with the Phillies and Bobby Abreu or the Cubs for Mark Prior and Corey Patterson.
Since the Orioles are probably not going to get what they percieve as equal value (Tejada for Ramirez straight up IS a fair trade, asking for Clement and Marte is just being greedy!) Tejada likely stays in Baltimore, if he leaves and there is not a Manny Ramirez on the recieving end that just gives Orioles fans one more reason not to watch the O's next season.Comment

Re: Tejada wants out of Baltimore
All those deals you mentioned seem well below the quality of our offer...especially two bad contracts from Anaheim in OC and Erstad, that's bad!! If you're trading Tejada to Anaheim, any compotent GM asks for Brandon Wood or atleast Howie Kendrick in the package seeing as how they'd be set up the middle. I wonder what else they want in the Abreu deal, because I don't see Floyd or Hamels leaving to put Tejada at third.Comment
