Sorry you feel like I'm lashing. I was simply throwing out some stats to show that I think everyone (people posting here, the experts, etc.) are making a mistake by picking the Rangers to finish 3rd or 4th. They are in one of the toughest divisions in baseball so it will be interesting to see how they do but I'll be surprised if they don't get at least 2nd place.

Originally posted by jmw1137I think it's funny everyone is picking the Rangers to be 3rd (or even 4th) in their division. Someone had them at 70-92...did you look at their record last year? They were 79-83. They are definitely a better team this year...there's no way they'll lose 9 more games than they did last year (unless they have serious injuries).
I'm originally from Chicago and a lifelong Cubs fan but since moving to Texas I have realized what a great club the Rangers are. Some interesting facts from last year:
- 3rd most in runs (behind BOS & NYY)
- 1st in HRs (by more than 30!)
- 1st in TB
- 1st in SLG
- 3rd in H (behind BOS & NYY)
- 3rd in RBI (behind BOS & NYY)
Now some of their other stats aren't great...SO, BB, AVG...but they weren't at the bottom for any of those. This year they lose Soriano, replace him with Kinsler who should be a solid second baseman, solidify their pitching and everyone counts them out? As you can see from my signature I think they'll win their division this year.Comment

Originally posted by soxboy7Maybe if there were some pitching stats up there I could justify them doing any better than third. They can bash the ball all day long, but if they're going to throw batting practice to the other team then they are going to continue to lose. I don't see them being able to overtake Oakland of the Angels unless one of those teams experience a great amount of injuries.Comment

Re: Projected Standings for next season
Not to worry. They'll still win the division. The Cubs will be the Cubs and finish 2nd and out of the wildcard. The team that could make some noise, not enough to finish higher than 3rd but still, is the Pirates. I know that's kind of funny but look at their young pitching. With Sean Casey added as a clubhouse leader, there is a new chemistry factor involved. I like the Brewers too but I don't think they'll finish higher than the Pirates. The pick of the Reds in last is dead-on.
I will tell you all now, keep your eyes on the Reds activities this offseason and during the 2006 season. Expect some major changes in the front office and field personnel. The GM's contract is up after this year and the COO will probably get let go as well. These new owners had ties to the Cards as minority owners. They want to try and build the same thing in Cincinnati that's in St. Louis.MLB: Cincinnati Reds
NFL: Cincinnati Bengals
NCAA Hoops: Xavier Musketeers
NCAA Football: Miami Hurricanes
NHL: Calgary Flames
