No player in Baseball and other sport cost a million dolar....In the Past there were better player and play for the love of sports.....If Roberto Clemente play today...How he will cost. I think more that A Rod's.

Of course, inflation has also risen... not to mention the fact that there's 10000x more fan support than there used to be (not just in tickets, but think any merchandise).

At the time he was signed, and compared to the contracts that other players were getting, yes he was.

If his contract ran out now, he wouldn't get 19 million a year, but the market is different now.

Actually, I think that's important to consider. He's the captain and marketing figurehead of New York's biggest sports team, so there's business implications as well as George's love for an on field leader that just seems born to wear pinstripes. He'd get less today, but not that much less because of who he works for.

I've always respected Jeter (and not just for who he dates ), but let's just say he plays SS more because he's the captain of the Yankees and less because he's a good fielder.

It's hard to compare salaries when players signed them in different years.

Not only is he an excellent player on the field, but he also helps bring in revenue like tickets sold, merchandise, etc....

partly correct thinking. Though you see the Yankees can afford to pay Jeter 19 mill to do whatever he does, and he's mediocre compared to Bonds. Jeter couldn't even sniff Bonds' greatness; but to his luck he was in the right position when the time came.(Yankees' 1992 6th pick)

Absolutely correct. I dont care if it cliche, Jeter has "it". Awesome on the field, and incredible work ethic. He has all the intangibles and is what a baseball player SHOULD be.

One thing you have to remember though is that Jeter is really marketable which probably helps make up for his salary. For example David Beckham gets about 6 million pounds a year even though he sucks, but because he is so marketable his team (Real Madrid) is able to go on tours and make double or triple the amount of money they pay him just from the tours and that doesn't include shirt sales and other things. Anyways back to Jeter, I would think that he is more marketbale that Bonds and most other players.

Jeter is right up there with Bonds, and Please Jeter never cheating to get where he is, he wroked hard for it, unlike the Cheating *** Bonds, so please with all that. Come back when Bonds says he cheated, and when he wins a ring.

He just has a good reputation compared to him. If you haven't met Bonds, you really can't say **** about him. He's a big family man (don't even start with the divorces, I don't want to hear it), and he's only loyal to those that won't be arrogant to him. I'm guessing the media is in the "arrogant" category.

Jeter has been a captain on the Yankees and has been with them for 9 World Series appearances. I can't necessarily say that he "led" them there, but he is the captain... so say what you will.
