Originally posted by asianflowIt comes down to supply and demand. I've never understood why so many people are against athletes making a lot of money. Just like what JR said, they're probably just jealous.

Actually, I didn't know what you were trying to get at. As camulos said, the money has to go somewhere... and it sure as hell ain't goin' back to the fans, nor are vendor salaries going to raise. Likewise, the seating and pricing for the games, while rather pricy, are suitable. As a matter of fact, they may be the cheapest of the 4 major sports (correct me if I'm wrong, because I might as well be).Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Is Jeter Worth 19 mill?
Oh, haha.
For what, though? Why not just give the players what they deserve? Remember... they aren't just athletes, they are also celebrities. Notice how the underminded non-All Star players are all paid under $1 mil (unless having been a 10+ year veteran). The big-time players are spokespeople, male models, role models, entertainers, etc. They have a possy and paparazzi, just like any other celebrity out there. They have their name, picture, and personal info licensed on any card, poster, calendar, video game, magazine, or commercial.
You know who you think should pocket their money is the government... or spend it on something else. Note that not only are we not paying that much for baseball games compared to taxes, but it's also something that we're not forced to do, especially for something that over 90% of us Americans don't want most of the money being spent on. We're already paying money that we don't have... why do they have to collect more from us?
At any rate, the only reason the MLB and the organizations should save money is in case of any major hit in revenue (or some sort of bankrupcy, or what have you). I don't really know when that's a case, and I don't even really know what else to save it on.Last edited by Blzer; 01-10-2006, 10:43 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Is Jeter Worth 19 mill?
Because we're a society that values things such as entertainment over anything else. The people make these celebrities who they are by paying for their product, whether it be a movie, ballgame, or something else. If you think its bull then don't support the entertainment industry and give your money to other sectors like health and education.Comment

I guess investing isn't all a bad thing, but it's in the franchise... not even in the ownership.
To the main point of this topic, though... like I said earlier, Jeter being paid $19 mil is no problem with me. Yankee fans and New Yorkers pay that much money annually to see Jeter, and he deserves it. But like I compared Bonds and Sosa (Sosa = overpaid and Bonds = underpaid), then either Bonds should get more or Jeter should get less. Sosa should flat out be paid no more than $1.2 mil or so.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
