Taguchi would make a nice 4th Outfielder, but not a starting Centerfielder. At 36 it is unlikely that Taguchi will improve beyond what we have already seen. I'm not going to say that Taguchi is or is not an upgrade over Stern-because we don't know what Stern can do, 15 AB's is not enough to indicate what kind of a player Stern is, or will be.Comment

Originally posted by rsoxWith the A's signing of Frank Thomas moving Nick Swisher back into the A's crowded Outfield Jay Payton is definitley available and would come at a much cheaper price than what the Indians are asking for. If i were the Sox i would trade for Payton, tell the Indians where they can stick it and try and sign Torii Hunter next winter.
I don't think that Payton would ever want to play for Boston again, I don't think he really likes them for not playing him before.
As for the deal it is probably dead which upsets me because there are 100 coco crisps in the MLB today and his trade value is pretty high right now, hopefully the Indians can make a deal by the beginning of you the year still, since we still need a guy who would be ready next year to take over for Boone, is for Kouzmanoff he is said to not be ready for at least 2 years, and in all reality I am not sure the Indians brass are as high as they once were for him.Comment

From Rotoworld.com...
Andy Marte - 3B - Red Sox
According to Cleveland Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes, the Coco Crisp, David Riske and Josh Bard for Andy Marte, Guillermo Mota and Kelly Shoppach is gaining momentum.
Cleveland left-hander Arthur Rhodes is in Philadelphia on Friday to undergo a physical by the Phillies, which enable the Indians to obtain CF Jason Michaels. We've heard rumors that the trade contains contigencies on Mota's health. If Mota spends a certain amount of time on the DL in 2006 the Red Sox may be required to send another prospect to Cleveland. I thought that Mullhern or Garko were oh well guess I don't know as much as I thought I did about him, but everyone is saying that Marte is the key since the Indians don't have a viable prospect in the minors that are close to being ready. By the way Kousmanoff did have a decent season last year but he played high A and is going to be 25 this year, not really prospect age anymore if you ask me, and he doesn't seem to be ready for a call up as he is not even on the non-roster invitees to spring training this year.Comment

They have him listed on the depth chart for the team though.
The official website of the Cleveland Guardians with the most up-to-date information on news, tickets, schedule, stadium, roster, rumors, scores, and stats.
I think they moved Mulhern to the outfield from first, so he's just going to end up being lost in the system. He was a great fielding first basemen though. Not as good as Aubrey though, but Aubrey can never stay healthy.
Garko followed by Jason Cooper are the best hitters in the minors right now for the Indians.Last edited by ExtremeGamer; 01-27-2006, 01:15 PM.Comment

Re: Boston to trade Marte and Mota for Crisp
Originally posted by CWood2If Mota went down in July and we had to give up Delcarmen (for example) as a result, that would be one of the most ridiculous trade clauses I've ever seen any team agree to. I'd be fine paying some of his salary for time spent on the DL, but to have a player in waiting in case Mota's arm falters?? Absurd. We need to make an agressive offer for Kearns and tell Shapiro to get lost.
I don't understand why all these deals have to go through Cleveland. Why not go out and get Kearns for Clement and a prospect, Michaels for Mota then talk to Cleveland if you really want Crisp.Comment

Re: Boston to trade Marte and Mota for Crisp
Apparently the Reds new FO is downplaying a trade for Austin Kearns, but we know they want Clement so it can't be that hard. It's obvious we've presented a fair deal, and if Mota is damaged goods, then why even continue talks of the original deal? Sounds like Shapiro is dragging his cold feet again, and short of including 2 dozen boston cream pies, I'm not willing to sweeten this deal with anything else.Comment

The long talked-about trade that would send Phillies outfielder Jason Michaels to the Cleveland Indians for veteran reliever Arthur Rhodes is nearing completion, baseball sources said this afternoon.
Rhodes is in Philadelphia today having a physical examination. If he passes the physical, the deal could be announced later today.Comment

Interesting. I really don't see why Cleveland would make this trade unless they still planned on going through with the Red Sox trade, which by all indications seems to be on hold.
It's a smart move by the Tribe, they take another option away from the Red Sox to make for a CF. Not saying Boston was that interested in Michaels, but say this deal did completely die, it's one less player out there for the Sox to go after. We can just play Michaels in right or he's our 4th OF.
All indications here are we're getting Mota, Shoppach, Marte, and Delcarmen for Riske, Crisp, and Bard. Still nothing but rumors though.Comment

I hope so! We would have killed the Red Sox in that deal described above.http://flotn.blogspot.com
