Re: Boston to trade Marte and Mota for Crisp

Just because the Red Sox need a CF doesn't mean they're going to grossly overpay to get one. They just don't work that way. The Indians don't have to trade Crisp, but they've made it pretty clear from the original talks (Kearns for Westbrook and the 3 team deal) that they'd prefer Kearns.

As for the rotoworld quote, it just isn't happening. There's no way the Red Sox give up Clement and Marte for Crisp when they could have Kearns for just Clement. That's also a pretty big assumption for them to make since no reputable source has confirmed that.

My feeling on the whole thing is that Mota failing a physical (after being cleared by the Red Sox a couple months ago) comes conveniently at the same time as the Reds GM getting fired. It's possible that Cleveland failed him so both teams could revisit talks with the new Reds GM, before working anything out between them.

Repeat after me: occam's razor. occam's razor.

Mota failed the physical. He's likely as valuable to the 2006 boston red sox as my sock with holes in it.

Adam Stern is the starting centerfielder right now. They are clearly desperate and are going to get raped in whatever deal they make for a CF. Whether it is Crisp, Reed, Roberts, Michaels, whomever. The sooner you all realize this, the better.

Players fail physicals all the time for various reasons and are fine. Teams could find a reason to fail any 32 year old pitcher in the league if they really wanted to. Cleveland might have some legitimate concerns, but it's clear that they're just trying to sweeten the pot since the latest rumor has them asking for Delcarmen along with Mota. If he failed his physical and they think he can't pitch, why do they still want him at $3mil for this year?

It's true the Red Sox need a CF but they also have something other teams need: pitching. They're not dealing from as desperate a situation as most think. At this point, I'd rather they walk away from the Cleveland deal if the reports are true that they're asking for Delcarmen too. Michaels, Kearns and possibly Dave Roberts or Jay Payton are still available.

Don't worry about a team's physical who is receiving a player. Two years ago Omar Vizquel failed the Seattle Mariners physical in a deal we had finalized, he came back to Cleveland, was never on the DL and had a great year.

Oh and by the way no cleveland doesn't want to trade Crisp but if they find it needed to better the team in the long run then they will do it.

That's pretty much what I've heard. My question is still...if Cleveland thinks Mota is an injury risk, why do they still want him at $3 mil for this year?

I don't think this is a good deal for the Red Sox, but I wouldn't be surprised if they went through with it.

Re: Boston to trade Marte and Mota for Crisp

Oh one more thing from the article that I want to bring to your attention as you thinking that the Indians want to trade crisp so bad.

"The Indians have never felt the urgency that Boston has to make this trade. If they keep Crisp, the lineup that finished third in the American League in homers, fourth in runs and fifth in batting average last year returns intact."

"Boston is in a different position. Since center fielder/leadoff hitter Johnny Damon bolted to sign a four-year, $52 million deal with the Yankees after last season, the Red Sox have been looking for a replacement. They feel that Crisp, 26, can do the job."

That is why the Red Sox agreed to overpay in the first place and now Shapiro is trying to milk every last prospect out of the Sox, I for one would be happy just getting Marte, but if the Sox are dumb enough to give up both Mota and Delcarmen as well as Marte and Shoppach, then I would take that deal 10 out of 10 times. Lets just hope the Sox really get desperate.

Trading Crisp is all about money. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think he didn't really fail, the Indians might be trying to pull a fast one on the sox saying that they weren't really happy with the results as opposed to failing but that is all speculation at this point.

I don't think that's legal. All I care about is getting Marte... whatever else is icing on the cake IMO. Shapiro get this deal done!

Cleveland didn't give him a physical, Philadelphia did. They can't lie about the results.

I thought Cleveland was sending Rhodes to Philly, not Mota.

I may have to rescind this, as I can't find where I heard that info from. I tried looking up a source and all I can find was Rhodes to Philly for Michaels. My bad, I can't back up this comment.

You're missing some key points here. The Indians want to trade Crisp, for whatever reason. Jim Callis said on his ESPN chat that Cleveland should be more than happy to get a package that included Kearns and Delcarmen. Whether or not thats still an option, I'm not sure but it's clear that Cleveland values both Kearns and Marte more than they do Crisp. I understand that they don't have to make a deal, but they would like to if the right one comes along.
