Sox GM Kenny Williams calls Frank Thomas an "idiot"

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2345972

Seriously, I'm getting really sick and tired of all these had-beens that still complain after they have signed on with another team. Yes Frank Thomas was the face of the White Sox for many years, which is why we never traded him the last few years. And its also the reason why the Sox gave him the last word during the World Series celebration.

The Sox gave Frank Thomas a ring. He didnt contribute much during the season last year, and for him to basically disrespect the fans of Chicago by:

"he wouldn't have participated in a couple ceremonial functions during the postseason. Unable to play because of an injury, he threw out a first pitch during the playoffs. Later he was given the opportunity to address the crowd at the end of the White Sox's victory parade."

is a slap to Chicagos face. Frank, you truly are an idiot. If you really thought the Sox were planning on keeping you after they signed Konerko and traded for Thome, then I say GOOD RIDDANCE! Good luck with the numerous injuries you'll suffer while playing with the A's.

Oh yeah, and my anger relates to his money hungry attitude when the Sox werent winning and he was an "icon" in the south side.

    Frank Thomas = Sammy Sosa

Who knows, maybe the Big Hurt is also on roids..

Eh I think Kenny Williams is overreacting badly here. The comments Thomas made aren't THAT bad. I'm not surprised that Reinsdorf didn't call Thomas tho as he's known to be very hands off. I guess Thomas wanted to have a sense of closure rather then being coldly let go.

Not many organizations let their franchise guys go in a classy manner anymore.

Rarely will you see loyalty from both sides. Comments usually come out because reporters are asking certain questions.

Thomas showed up at the A's FanFest and the fans were going on and on about how nice he was. He glady signed autographs and posed for pictures.

I agree. Not a very mature way for Williams to address the situation. It's hard to take sides in these types of situations because we never hear the whole story but either way a GM should handle it in a more professional manner.

"I've got a lot of respect for Jerry Reinsdorf, I do. But I really thought, the relationship we had over the last 16 years, he would have picked up the phone to say, 'Big guy, we're moving forward. We're going somewhere different. We don't know your situation or what's going to happen.' I can live with that, I really can," Thomas said.

"But treating me like some passing-by-player. I've got no respect for that," he said.
How do these comments give that douche bad Kenny Williams the right to call Frank an idiot.

Thomas doesnt really have a leg to stand on. Even if the White Sox would have told Frank in a way that Frank thought was appropriate, he would be complaining about how Ozzie made it a point to subjugate his presence. Frank has been a malcontent ( a cancer even) for several years. Frank is also only sore about the diminishing skills clause because the White Sox were in a position to invoke it...which would make it a shrewd move by the White Sox and hardly a basis for criticism...unless Frank is saying this is why his level of play diminished, which is really an indictment of Franks professionalism and not the front office.

Being here, I heard all this stuff since he left. Thing is the radio station down here was tired of him too because of how he was looking out for himself. I can't even remember seeing him play for a while. He was a good player but his injury was his downfall. I honestly could care less about Frank cause he's soon to retire. Also, how in the work was Jerry suppose to call Frank and tell him that they weren't going to pick him back up for the new season? How many athletes can honestly say they'd go with no problems and with a open-mind? I just can't see that happening. However, this is all little kid's stuff. I'm personally tired of all that mess. Need to start eh season already.......

Because Frank was treated with great class and he's just backlashing like a spoiled little teenager.

Who the eff cares enough about these dingleberries to morally grandstand and take a position on who "is in the right"? A couple of rich guys are having a little prissy fight, sans the man-slapping. Why should anybody care?

Oh yeah, it's spring training and the media thinks their audience loves the tabloid, lowest common denominator, soap opera type of story. Maybe the audience does like this trash? I don't really know that, but I do know that I'd rather read about how specific players are looking in live batting practice or simulated games as opposed to this nonsense. If it means I get one more piece of info on fantasy draft day, then I'm all for a story on how Jim Thome is looking this spring. I guess I'm in the minority though. :-\

                  *Edit*
Note how this non-story made the frontpage of ESPN.com, yet there is hardly ANY information in the last few days regarding how players are progressing so far (aside from Petey's toe injury). As a roto league player, I'm far more interested on what guys like Jim Thome, Nomar Garciaparra, or Carlos Beltran look like so far.

That is the article which caused Kenny to respond like he did.

Not a very good read for those that idolized Frank Thomas while growing up (like me) and thought you'd still be able to cheer for him. He comes off as an arrogant, you owe me everything, Bonds type of player.

Thats nice and all but the thing is, there are a lot of players who have good springs but when the real season begins, they disappear and, conversely, there are guys who have bad springs that are able to turn it on when the season rolls around.

You think about what Barry Bonds has done from the ages of 37 to 41. It shows you what a player 37 can do — 37 to 40 are your prime years. Baseball is a game, from the ages of 35 to 40, you know so much more."

Hmm I still don't see it. He sounds more like a guy who is still confident in his ability and is a little bitter about being forced out of the organization he's spent his entire career with and probably been their best player of all time. Granted, we all know this is how the business of baseball works these days, but you can't blame him for being a little bitter about it.

he's right on one occasion, you do know more. That's obvious if you been playing the game progressively for 10+ years. Though your body is not going to be at it's prime at it's pro-senile age. Hopefully he doesn't look up to Bonds' steroids habits, cause that's the only excuse for Bonds' success lately(not really, but since steroids are illegal, we'll protray it that way.
