Re: Sox GM Kenny Williams calls Frank Thomas an "idiot"

Being a Cub fan I don't have any love for the Sox. But being in Chicago my whole life I've seen the entire career of Big Frank, was once a huge fan of his as a player. However, he's been like this forever. I think this is just the final straw from the organization. Frank has been a moaner, complainer, cry baby for almost as long as I can remember. I completely understand why Kenny Williams let go like that. It's been a LONG time coming.

It's just Frank being Frank always complaining about something, this time Kenny just overreacted.

It may not be an overeaction - it sounds like that's been pent up for a long, long time.

Didn't Kenny Williams play with Frank Thomas in the early 90's? Maybe they didn't get along then. I think Guillen was there then as well.

Re: Sox GM Kenny Williams calls Frank Thomas an "idiot"

As I recall, a few years ago, Frank even commented on how sad he was every time he got his paycheck, because he was only getting an 8 million dollar salary every year. He thought he should be making ARod money when he got the big signing bonus.

He's always been a whiner. Even Ozzie called him out the other year as part of the bad attitude in the clubhouse. They should've gotten rid of him a long time ago...

Frank Thomas deserved it. He was selfish. Williams hit it right on the money. They don't need him and they won't miss him. Thomas needs to move on already.

Re: Sox GM Kenny Williams calls Frank Thomas an "idiot"

I agree with Kenny 100%. Frank is the biggest cry baby and all he wanted is money. I cant believe that article about him saying he is in the prime of his carrer at 37. Yes, I wanted him to come back to Chicago to play DH vs LHPs in place of Thome, but thank god we didnt. I didnt relize how bad he was for this team. He was a big part for this team for many years, and a little of this year with those HRs he hit in clutch fashion. Frank Thomas is a complete idiot bottomline and thank god Kenny said those comments or I woudlnt of noticed HOW BAD this guy was. I always knew he was a baby, but never to this extreme. The White Sox did so much for this guy it is not even funny.

On a side note...My 2 favorite players of all time are now big jokes and our out of Chicago..Sosa and Thomas. Ive liked Thomas ever since I was 4 years old in 1994 and Sosa was my favorite player when i was 8 til about when I 13 and he walked out on the team. After he walked out I had to choose between my 2 favorite teams at time because I got sick of everyone calling me a bandwagoner between the 2 chicago teams. I even said to myself, my family, and alot of my friends that I am a 100% white sox fan because there was no reason for me to have any like in the Cubs anymore because my favorite player left. Lucky for me, The White Sox had a amazing offseason that year(very critized at the time) and ended up winning the world series. I only watched 9 Cub Games this year (6 Cubs vs Sox and some games between that on nationaly TV)I also didnt like the new broadcast team.

You watched more Cubs games than I did. I also find the new team horrendous. Its painful to be a Cubs fan these days. But as hard as it is to watch the Cubs these days, the White Sox announcers are even worse.

Just heard the comments, and I commend Kenny Williams.

It's nice to see someone being honest, instead of sugarcoating it like everyone would expect him to do.

Re: Sox GM Kenny Williams calls Frank Thomas an "idiot"

It amazes me how many people side with the owners and GM's in these situations, especially when it involves the franchises best player ever.

I didn't have a problem with anything Frank had to say. Granted the being in his prime at 37 was out there but it didn't sound like he was asking for a raise, just a chance to play and possibly finish his career with the only team he's ever played for.

Also, why whenever a player wants money is he whiny and selfish but when an organization doesn't want to pay them they're smart?

Umm Frank did a thing or two for them as well. I'll never understand why fans can forget about a HOF career so quickly just because a guy leaves town on a sour note.

You'd probably be singing a different tune if you lived in Chicago like many of us and were more exposed to all of Franks drama. You mention "sour note" which is euphemistic. He left on the heels of 5 years of sour notes. It was an ongoing saga with him. Its funny too how he tries to pin it on Kenny Williams and avoid pinning any of it on Jerry. Carlton Fisk was probably treated a lot worse but there was a different GM at the time...but Reinsdorf was there. What makes Frank so sure Reinsdorf isnt completely behind Williams in all of this?

Probably true. I didn't really hear any of it besides this latest interview, which wasn't bad but taken with ongoing issues I guess I can see where there would be a problem.

EDIT - Just out of curiosity, what were the terms of his last contract?

During his last contract, they invoked a diminishing skills clause. Im not extremely familiar beyond that.
