    Re: AJ Burnett hurt again

Unless he's going on the 60 Day DL or worse, I'm not going to jump the gun on this. I can't believe Burnett is already drawing comparisons to Wood and Prior; he doesn't have a chronic injury record like Wood whatsoever.

Besides, if Burnett's injury was costing us wins, then I'd probably be jumping on that bandwagon you guys like to ride. But he isn't, so...

Didn't Burnett and Wood both have TJ surgery?

And isn't Burnett eating up 11 mil dollars in payroll that could have been spent on another pitcher that could win some games?

I was comparing AJ to Wood cause he's got great stuff and great potential but he also has control problems and is starting to add injury issues to his repertoise. Mostly I relate the 2 due to the control issues.

It hurts me to see what Dave Bush has done in MIL, especially yesterday. Complete game against one of the best offenses in the league

I think alot of the time when people say "he never reached his potential" it's a bit short changing the guys who do. Yeah Wood/Clement might have been great, but odds are that where they are at now is probably where their ceiling is.

its just never ending with this guy, if Toronto were smart they would wait untill he starts preforming well 5 wins or something and then try to trade him or just try to get rid of him for someone period.

Well I think Randy Johnson is the perfect example of one of these guys with great potential that took quite a while to get a handle on it. He came up and threw so hard and with such great movement, but he was totally ineffective cause he couldn't find the zone. But after several years of being a mediocre pitcher he finally harnassed his stuff and became a great pitcher. Koufax was also one of these guys.

Wood, Clement and Burnett are all naturally gifted pitchers but what separates them from great pitchers is that they don't have the head game of baseball mastered and may never really "get it". But if they do they will be dominant.

Guys like Maddux are just the opposite. Mediocre potential but have the head game down to perfection and therefore succeed. I'd take a guy who "gets it" over a stuff guy anyday.

That won't happen in a million years due to his contract. At least Burnett has an option after the 4th year so if he has proven to be a bust the Jays can strongly encourage him to exercise the option.

Oh and Muzion, don't remind me of David Bush please. He was my favourite young Blue Jay and I KNEW he was going to live up to his potential. Sadly he had to be shipped off to get Lyle Overbay.

It's actually after the 3rd year for the player opt out clause and that's wishful thinking if you think Burnett has any intention of passing up 20+ million if he has 3 lousy years just to help out the Jays. Look no further than Alvin Williams. The only way the Jays are off the hook for some money is if he doesn't play one game the entire season and insurance will cover it but that means you will get probably 3 or 4 sub par years before he loses an entire season to injury.

I heard the Jays pitching coach today on the radio and he sounded less than comforting when talking about the injury. He said he never heard of someone having scar tissue problems so long and often after TJ surgery. Infact he said it may be worse and that anytime after you sign a free agent you're taking a chance but that Burnett was a quality person no matter what. Almost sounded like he was conceding that Burnett may be a bust. This was right after the host wanted Arnsberg to comfort Jay fans out there that this was nothing serious. He did everything but.

I suggest purchasing this extra wide shovel to aid in removing your head from beneath the sand.

                                Wait. Backup. You're serious, right?

It's April 23rd and he is already going on the DL for the second time this season, with what appears to be a lingering elbow injury. This from the same guy who has been on the DL every season he has been in the Majors, not to mention has already had reconstructive surgery on the elbow in question. He's made thirty starts in a season a grand total of one time over his professional career. Oh, and he got sent home by his club last season because he was ripping his teammates and the organization. So, not only is he a health risk, he's also likely to develop into a cancer.

Have a fun next five years living in denial.
