BTW, isnt the legal definition of assault hinge on whether there was a perceived threat by the assaulted party and that the assaulter had the capacity to follow through on the perceived threat? Here, there really didnt seem to be a perceived threat. It looked like it was a complete surprise as if at no point did the umpire consider that Young would hit him with a bat.PSN: JISTIC_OS

Re: Example of poor sportsmanship..
I don't understand how this thread has over 60 replies.
He threw a bat at an umpire. I would have thought the sanctimonious holier than thou posts would have been flushed out a day after this happened.
I watched the video of this toss, and I found it to be pretty hilarious to be honest. High comedy. He gets called for strike three (on a pitch that is not a strike FWIW), and just stands in the box while the next batter walks up. He probably talks some $hit to the ump, then proceeds to move off camera to the left. Suddenly, you see a bat flying in a left-to-right direction and drilling the bozo ump in his chest.
Pretty good stuff.Comment

Originally posted by JJLinnThis shouldn't have even happened, Delmon should have been with the D-Rays since opening day, so technically you could blame their stupidity for this incident, but it was a really stupid thing to do. Even if it was one of those heat of the moment things, you have to control yourself.
um no !!! absolutley not
if anything elijah dukes deserved to be on the major league roster since spring training not delmon dont let his press clippings fool you
that empire is the hardest thing he has hit all season...he isnt ready yet
not to mention maturity....you dont think he isnt going to see some tough strike calls in the majors?

that aside im sure they would have wished for another way to do exactley what you wrote.................................................. ...............

Re: Example of poor sportsmanship..
I think you suspend him for the season and make him go through anger management training before allowing him back into baseball next year.
There is simply no excuse, and I can careless that he apologized because he has to. I am glad the umpire is ok.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
