    Re: 2006 MLB Draft

Are there any notable college third basemens in this draft? If not I'd guess the Padres go after either a starting pitcher or an outfielder.

I'm hoping they also pick up Jeremy Barfield.

I don't think he'll be out there on seventeenth if he's the best third base prospect in the first round. But then again anything can happen.

It'll be interesting to see if the Padres do go after a college third basemen because they're pretty high on Chase Headley (who is currently in Single A) but they are pretty thin at that position.

          It's this Tuesday huh?

He's talented, but he's struggled at times against better hitting teams. He should be the consensus #1, but he's no sure thing. This draft is one of the worst in many years.

Some people think Kyle Drabek is better than Andrew Miller, but kind of iffy on Drabek because they say he has some attitude problems.

                I've heard that as well.

Drabek is tough to judge IMO. He's not a big guy (6'0, 175), but he throws mid 90's and has hit 97 a few times. They said he's already got a major league ready slider and curve (I've seen video and his curve looks nasty). However, his size worries me - probably shouldn't as other small stature pitchers have succeeded - and his attitude is definately questionable. The reports I read stated he screams on the mound, throws gloves/bats and other things in the dugout, swears at his teammates and opposition etc....

Might be immaturity on his part or he might just need a major attitude adjustment - which might never happen. Tough call.

I was looking forward to the draft since the Sox have some good picks again, but then I heard there will be no one around at their 1st pick the quality of the first 5 guys they got last year. Now granted, they had a phenominal draft last year, but still....

A name to watch in this upcoming draft.. Alex White, high school senior out of DH Conley in North Carolina. One of the best two way players in the nation, topping out in the mid-90's from the bump, and blasting 15 homeruns from the plate. Wouldn't be surprised if he was taken in the first two rounds.

LOL. You reading the same stuff I am?

Only reason I ask is we both had read about Drabek's attitude problems and I've also heard that Stubbs is very much overrated. I've never seen Stubbs play, but I read a few things that essentially stated his approach and mechanics aren't suited for MLB baseball. He's really have to re-tool everything which might take some time.

Who knows though? This year is going to be quite a crap shoot IMO.
