Originally posted by Longhorn6I can see Ortiz starting at first base, that's obvious...everyone but Yankees fans seem to love him(minus when he's hitting walk-off hits against your team)...but choosing Konerko over Hafner is pure Ozzie homerism.Last edited by Havok410; 07-04-2006, 10:46 PM.Comment

Originally posted by Havok410Yep...Konerko is having a great year but Hafner, Ortiz, and Thome all have better numbers them him. Hafner has been the best hitter in the AL since 2004 and he's been the best hitter in the AL this year since the first week of the season.Comment

Re: If Francisco Liriano isn't an All Star, then neither is anyone else in the AL.
Hafner hit his 6th Grand Slam tonight and his 25th homer of the season so far. The fact that he is not in the all-star game is a JOKE!!! If he was just an all of a sudden putting up numbers this season guy then i could understand him not being selected. However he got snubed in 2004 and was on the final vote that year. THEN was snubbed again last season and by the end of it was in consideration from alot of analysts as an AL MVP canidate. So now again he gets snubed even though he puts up even better numbers this year. What does the guy need to do seriously!!!! Does he need to hit .350 and hit 30 homers??
Then to leave off Liriano is a travesty. The guys numbers in a limited amount of starts in comparison to other starters through the full season is astounding. He ranks towards the top in so many categories with at least 6 fewer starts.
I think all the AL managers should vote to decide the reserves and not one manager. That would make things alot better and would avoid the favortisim that is killing the all star game.Go Bison!

Blame Twins fans that Liriano didn't make it. White Sox fans are obviously going to vote for their guy but Twins fans couldn't even get Joe Mauer voted in as the starting catcher, who should have been a no-brainer.Comment

Liriano not making the roster is just stupid.
And I would like to see Konerko starting since the position is first baseman and he is a first baseman, unlike those other guys that only play half the game, but if Ortiz is on the ballot and gets voted in you cant really argue against it.Comment

Originally posted by sneppThat's right, it's the Twins fans fault that the biggest markets (NY, Bos, LA, Chi) have the most ignorant fans.
Every fanbase is full of homers, not just the large markets. Did the Twins put together a clever compaign for Liriano like the White Sox did with Pierzynski? If they did, I didn't hear about it.
Every year the fans vote in a biased manner, complaining about it year after year is tiring.Comment

Then do something about it. Did you tell all of your friends and family to vote multiple times for Liriano? I doubt that you did. Complaining about All-Star selections on a messageboard won't help change the outcome. Write a letter to Major League Baseball if you are so outraged.Comment

You know, he is right. How many average Sox fans voted because of that campaign? Most of them probably didn't even know what the 26th man vote was.Michigan WolverinesChicago White SoxComment

The same thing happened with both leagues. The larger markets won. Nomar from LA with a Boston and Chicago base as well beat out less than 1 million metro Milwaukee and Caupuano. And yes, there was a Cappy campaign as well.
The same thing happened with AJ winning out. 8 million metro area vs less than a million metro area. It doesn't take a math major to figure out who will win.Comment

Originally posted by VanillaGorillaThis guy is unreal. Check the numbers:
2.07 ERA
86.1 IP
57 Hits
103 K's
Oh, and he's been in the rotation since May 19th. And these are his starts since then:
5 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 5 K's (Win)
5 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 6 K's (Win)
6 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 4 K's (Win)
6 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 3 K's (Loss)
7 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 6 K's (Win)
7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 11 K's (Win)
8 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 7 K's (Win)
7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 8 K's (Win)
8 IP, 2 H, 0 ER's, 12 K's (Win)
So, he's given up more than 6 hits in one of his 9 starts. He's also given up 3 runs in a start only once, and 0 runs in 4 of his 9 starts. Oh, and he is now LEADING the American League in ERA, coming in at 2.07. So, AL leader in ERA, best pitcher in baseball the last 2 months, 9 wins, what could possibly keep this guy, one of the rising stars of Major League Baseball, out of the All Star Game?
On a seperate note, Jose Contreras, the guy everyone is fawning over because he's won 13 straight decisions, has a 6.21 ERA in June, and in his last 6 starts, has given up 48 hits? Liriano's last 6 starts? 24. It helps when the White Sox score 41 runs in those 6 starts.N.Y Mets

It's pretty damn disappointing that we don't get to see a pitcher having as good of a season as he is in the All-Star game.
When was the last time the Major League leader in ERA (by nearly a full run) didn't make the All-Star team?Comment
