Re: Green now a Met..
Any way you look at it...the Mets added a veteran player for basically nobody and most importantly, some insurance in case Floyd is out for any real length of time.

Re: Green now a Met..
I'd take Green anyday over Chavez in the outfield on his name alone.
Green's Line - AB: 417, AVG: .283, HR: 11, RBI: 51, BB: 37, Runs: 59, Hits: 118
Chavez' Line - AB: 250, AVG: 296, HR: 3, RBI: 31, BB 16, Runs: 37, Hits: 74
Green's average had dipped under .300 only this month, before he was batting above .300 for all games except 4.Favorites:
NHL: New York Rangers
MLB: New York Mets
NBA: New York Knicks
NFL: New York Giants
NCAAF: Rutgers
WWE: Carlito, Chris Beniot, Fit Finlay, Paul London, Brian Kendrick, CM Punk, Tommy Dreamer.
TNA: Kurt Angle, Raven, AJ Styles, Abyss, Petey Williams, Jay Lethal, Alex ShellyComment

Re: Green now a Met..
Stop now, as much as I like Endy Chavez he is not a full-time player, and if he is he's not a very good one.

all shawn green has is name alone anymore. he is not an everyday type player anymore and endy chavez is a better option than him nowadays.Comment

On his name alone? That's not smart."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I never said the Yankees make smart moves so your comment is irrelevant."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. I don't think anyone said the trade was bad.
The worst I've heard (and this is from me) is that it makes no sense when the Mets already had Nady and traded him away. To trade for Green, a player with similar production this season and costing a bit more, the Mets basically took a step backward.
However, someone then reminded me that the Mets traded Nady because they needed bullpen help with their star reliever Duaner Sanchez lost to injury. So, I retracted agreeing that the Mets had to move Nady because the bullpen was obviously more important. Trading for Green now gets the Mets back to where they were in July only now with an extra reliever.
That's good stuff and the Mets have the money to pay the small portion of Green's contract."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Green now a Met..
i think it was a good deal.... first of all, playing Endy everyday may get to him.. leave him in a platoon in left with Tucker & let Green play RF.. also secondly, Lastings can't be counted on yet to be a full time hitter... the Mets dont need another power bat right now.. a nice solid singles hitter would do fine in the 6 - spot...Comment

good point yankeepride... question is now, (hindsight).. did the Mets really need to get Hernandez & Perez for Nady?Comment

As it stands, Heillman has done a great job replacing Duaner while Rob is basically getting Heillman's 7th inning duties.Comment

Re: Green now a Met..
Minaya couldn't take the chance of not replacing Duaner, specially if he got the opportunity to bring back a guy that pitched great for us last year.

Roberto Hernandez was solid for New York last year and is doing just as solid right now (did he give up a homerun because opponents are only hitting .167 against him, but he has an ERA nearly at 4. 4 hits and three earned runs screams one mistake to a hitter)."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied.
