    Re: Comeback player discussion

Everybody here knows I'm not a homer, but I think you have to look at Curt Schilling in the American League.

Look, the guy endured an unfathomably risky surgical procedure to his ankle just to have the opportunity to pitch vs. the Yankees in the playoffs. As a result of that surgery, he had to endure yet another surgery to heal the severely damaged ankle.

As a result, his 2005 was mired with time spent on the DL and attempting to pitch on one leg to help the team make the playoffs. At this time last year, a lot of people were thinking that Curt Schilling would never be the same because of what happened to his ankle.

He hasn't put up his pre-injury numbers, but he has been fairly solid at the front of the rotation for the Red Sox. I think an ace pitcher should get the award here.

      16 HRs 78 RBI

      17 SB 6 CS

Now let's look at this year shall we?

      .286 AVG .389 OBP .631 SLG

      38 HRs 108 RBI

      16 SB 3 CS

He's also being talked about as a candidate for the NL MVP this year.

I think he's a strong candidate for comeback player of the year.
In 2004, Beltran was average for K.C. and was all or nothing with Houston.

      69 games with K.C.
      .278 ave, 15 HR, 51 rbi

      90 games with Hou:
      .258 ave, 23 hr, 53 rbi.

Anyone who gave him MVP votes that year is a fool.

My point is what did Beltran comeback from? A bad year, thats not what this award is about, atleast not to me.

Beltran didn't go anywhere so nothing to comeback from.

Schilling had my vote for most of the season, but he's really dropped off just like everyone else on the team. If he has a strong September and can get his ERA below 4.00 then I'd give it to him.
