2007: Alex Rodriguez in Los Angeles?

    From KFFL

Sep 21 The Los Angeles Daily News' Doug Padilla is reporting the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim may make a serious run at acquiring 3B Alex Rodriguez from the New York Yankees if Rodriguez requests a trade or the Yankees decide to shop him around. If the deal goes through, the Yankees figure to ask for no less than SP Ervin Santana, RP Scot Shields, OF Chone Figgins and a high-level prospect.
I would definetely do this as a Yankee fan... we get youth on the pitching staff (Santana), we get a reliable relief man (Shields) and we get a 3rd basemen back (Figgins)... and then a prospect...

Problem is, we'll have 3 speedy small ball single-hitting players (Figgins, Damon, and Jeter)... how do we arrange the order here? Jeter in the 3rd spot? Interesting, but it could work.

    Figgans would hit 9th.

I doubt it'd come to fruition, Santana isn't good enough of a young pitcher for the Yanks to give up on A-Rod just yet. Despite all the negative talk about A-Rod, I can't see him going anywhere. He generates too much revenue and media attention to get rid of him.

And knowing our luck with acquiring pitchers, Shields and Santana would come to the Bronx and absolutely blow.

And despite all the talk about how much he makes, the Yankees really aren't paying him that much. Texas picked up a signficant chunk.

I feel bad only because I'd like to see Arod reach his full potential. If he doesn't reach 800 home runs because of the Yankee pressure, I'll be sad. I think Anaheim would be a great place for him to quietly dominate.

I don't see the Yankees shopping him, and I don't see Arod asking for a trade, so I doubt this happens.

This is a great deal for the Angels.

Figgins has fallen off, Shields is 32, but yes losing Santana and a high level prospect will hurt, but the Angels have a great crop of the major league-ready triple A kids. And a lot of youth in the staff already.

In exchange for A-Rod, they could potentially have the best 1-2 punch in MLB. It could even be better than Ortiz-Manny.

yeah that would be a huge deal for the Angels...

Would love to see what AROD can do again once he gets away from the pressure of New York.

I think he'll get moved after he somehow costs the Yankees the 2006 World Series. I don't know how this will happen, but it will, similar to how everybody knew Grady Little would cost the Red Sox in 2003 at some point. The Yankees will have to move him after he blows it again.

I don't see A-Rod going to the Yanks to request a trade... Especially after reading that SI article, he seems too stubborn to admit that he's not getting it done.... And for a dude who's as concerned about image as he is, it would definitely look like he failed if he went to the Yanks and asked out of town.

I do think that LA would be a perfect place for him... He'd flourish there.

You'd be surprised at how a turd dropped inside a plastic bag on one's doorstep can influence somebody's opinion on a city..All it takes is a couple days straight of that and he'll want out of NY in no time.

Man I hope that doesn't happen. I do have to say that LA is the perfect place for A-Rod as he wouldn't have the pressure of the NY media hounding him every day.

How many times have we heard rumors about the Angels making a run at a big slugger?

                          I don't see this happening.

I'd rather see the Yankees get Santana, Shields, and a young position player like Hendrick or Kotchman, instead of Figgins.

And yeah, Jeter hitting 3rd sounds weird, but remember, your team didn't get hot until they traded for a guy who had seemingly lost the ability to hit home runs (Abreu). Having a bunch of mashers in the lineup doesn't always equate to division championships, and I think Cashman finally got Steinbrenner to realize that.

Actually it does always equate to division championships apparently (the last 5 years at least) but nothing more than that.
