Why won't Boras just buy him out already. He's the good ole organization.

looks like the deal may get done after all...

      from rotoworld.com

In a conference call Monday night, Red Sox GM Theo Epstein said the he's prepared to make a "record" offer to Daisuke Matsuzaka on Tuesday.
By record, it's taken to mean that it'll be the largest offer ever made to a player with no major league experience. Epstein and owner John Henry are among the members of the Red Sox to make the trip to Los Angeles in an attempt to get Matsuzaka signed before Thursday's deadline. "I think it's also fair to say we're on Scott Boras's doorstep because he hasn't negotiated with us so far," Henry said. "We're taking the fight directly to him to try to have a negotiation here."

I wonder what they consider a "record" deal? Figures!

EDIT: I was trying to do my own research on what possible figures could be considered record, and half way into it as I attained my contracts info, I ran into this article which basically could have saved me some time..D'oH!

The highest paid and definetely a bargain at the time was 'Godzilla Matsui' with $7 mill a year. Technically, if reports are true, Red Sox already offered the "record" deal if they offered 7-8 mill. for a Japanese pitcher with no ML experience, not to mention the record-breaking posting bid. So what kind of contract would they offer tomorrow, their best bet IMO would be to start with 4/60 mill. MLB in today's day is very healthy and booming.
"D-Mat" is claimed to be an ace at his prime, though I don't know how effective he will be here, but I don't think Boston would overwork him as opposed to the Japanese.

The real issue here is that Boras may indeed be Satan. In my entire life, I have never, ever heard of any human being so completely preoccupied with money. I bet if you look in this man's insides, it is black (or green, depending on what metaphor you like).

Scott Boras is an f'n douchebag.

I'd say it's a tie between Boras and Drew Rosenhaus.

I'm not quite sure how the love of money makes him satan.

It depends how you read it. From the Globe:

The offer, Epstein said, is of "considerable magnitude," describing it as the biggest offer given to a player who has never played in the big leagues and larger than any offer given to a Japanese player.
To me, this means it will top the 4/$52mil extension that the Yankees signed Matsui to. It may not top it in AAV, but I think the total will top it. We'll find out soon enough.

Easy, his passion for money directs decisions he makes, even if they are unethical. Hence saying that Matsuzaka "wasn't feeling well" enough to discuss contract with the Red Sox yesterday. That is being a douchebag.

I'm not sure of the dynamic going on here between Matsuzaka and Boras, but I really think Boras is just screwing with the guy's mind to receive a larger payday. I just picture Matsuzaka as a very agreeable dude, just wanting to say yes to anything anybody says. When an absolute tenacious bulldog like Boras is saying "Just prolong things in these negotiations, you'll make more money later", I don't think Matsuzaka has the sack to stand up to him, not realizing Boras is working for HIM not the other way around.

This whole situation is absolutely disgusting to me. Matsuzaka does NOT have the rights of a free agent pitcher, which is what Boras seems to be arguing. Players earn the right to free agency by playing X number of years. This has been collectively bargained by MLB and the players union. Matsuzaka has played 0 number of years in MLB, ergo, he is not afforded the right to free agency.

Why was Boras not claiming Johan Santana should be a free agent 2 years ago? He didn't have the service time. It is absolute bull$hit that this prick thinks he can re-invent the entire system because he wants even more money than the hundreds of BILLIONS he already owns. That is evil, my friends.

We know the Red Sox are offering many millions of dollars to Matsuzaka right now for many years. This dude can be set for the rest of his life (as if he isn't already, hah), but no, he wants more and more money. It is absolutely absurd. Right now, both Boras and Matsuzaka are obnoxious pricks.

Another quote from this walking piece of garbage:

"In Japan, he's known as the national treasure," Boras told some three dozen media representatives -- nearly all representing Japanese outlets. "Here, he will be known as Fort Knox."

To me, it's fairly clear that Satan is acting unreasonable here.

I'd say Boras is worse than Rosenhaus. At least Rosenhaus saved some kid that was drowning in Disney World a few years ago.

Borass(hole) is living in a dream world if he thinks he can get Matsuzaka a 100 million dollar contract. Personally i'd have taken that 4 yr/70 mil offer. I wonder how Matsuzaka will react when he'll end up NOT pitching in the Big Leagues in '07 thanks to his cummy American agent.

I'm sorry Boras, but that's the best you're gonna get and a lot more than he deserves. Matsuzaka is a fool if he lets Boras screw this up for him.
