I saw nothing wrong with the interview, him passing way is an unfortunate accident. Still, that interview was about other things and IMO they went about it the right way. Lidle dying doesn't change my opinion on it but I hope his family and son the best. Really unfortunate what happened, I was in shock when they said Cory Lidle.

They ripped Lidle because he felt there was more to life than baseball. Sure, players are going to be down... but seriously... for some, baseball isn't life. It's not right to try and make it seem like the guy should feel it is.

And they really should have cancelled the games regardless. He's an MLB player. Show some respect for one of your own. And please don't give that "He would have wanted the games to go on" crap.

I don't know if I'm getting the story after anybody else, but about 7 minutes ago SportsCenter just released information about Lidle's family receiving the horrible infromation.

They didn't cancel all the games when Darryl Kile died.

Whether this is insensitive or not, they only cancel games for a huge national tragedy. While Lidle's death is tragic, it's not a national tragedy.

I'm not surprised they didn't cancel the games... In fact, I'd have been very, very surprised if they had... Like was stated before, when Darryl Kile passed away suddenly, it was only that particular game between the Cubs and Cardinals that got cancelled, and the other games went on as planned. I don't think it's a lack of respect being shown by MLB towards Lidle's memory.

I do wonder, though, what if it had been Ken Griffey, Jr., or Roger Clemens, or a star of similar magnitude, as opposed to a journeyman pitcher... But I don't wanna get too far off topic, as it really should be about paying respect to a person who lost their life far too young... I'm the same age as Lidle, and I also have a six year old son... I can't imagine his son trying to grasp the fact that Daddy won't be coming home again...

Just because you made a mistake in the past, does not mean you can't look to change the future.

That's not the reason they got on him, though. It came up during the interview, but that wasn't the main point.

I don't get why anybody would get on Francesa and Russo about this. They didn't know two days later that the guy would be dead. They have a job to do just like everyone else. They found Lidle's comments out of bounds and thought he was speaking ill towards Torre. They called him out on it, which was fine. And as usual, when someone says something completely out of whack and is called on it, that person will call up every excuse in the book, which is what happened.

And let's be real, Lidle has said some stupid stuff in his time. It's like he spoke before he thought. It was about time someone put him in his place and I was laughing my butt off when that interview happened the other day. He was so owned, he couldn't even form a sentence without saying "you guys" this and "you guys" that or "I'm trying to enjoy the city" and all that junk. Just answer the damn questions and stop with the excuses, like "I was misquoted". Bull. Man up and own up to what you say.

Still...that has nothing to do with what happened today and my thoughts go out to Cory's family.

Agreed, but it's what started the whole feeling for the conversation. You knew it wasn't going to be pretty after that. They had it in for him, and you could tell from just that at the start....

Even though I can't stand Mike or Madd Dog Russo, sounds like you guys are ready to crucify them for doing their jobs...and what's funny is half of you are not even from NY, but yet echo those same remarks.

I still can't believe Cory Lidle was the sole reason why half of the city got frightened today. RIP

I think if the weather was good they'd at least cancel the NLCS game since it's in NY and well I don't think anybody could get riled up about a baseball game after a plane crashed into a building. I mean it's only been 5 years after 9/11. People in NYC are still jumpy about it.

Thank goodness the weather was bad because if MLB did indeed go ahead with NLCS Game One then there would be some very tough criticism of MLB for it.

I don't think there'd have been much criticism for MLB had they decided to play the game... Granted, there were tragic circumstances, with two people dying from a plane crashing into a building, but still, it was a small incident on the national landscape... It was an unfortunate accident, and of course, people's first thoughts were of another 9/11. But trust me, with NYers, once it was found out that everything was under control, it was business as usual. I e-mailed my old partner yesterday, to get a sense of how things were going, and he basically e-mailed me back saying, "Dude... Everything is cool, it's like another day around here." New Yorkers are resilient like that.

I'd like to know why this crash happened. I have not heard any legitimate reason yet. There's got to be something more descriptive than "he lost control". That much is obvious.

I've listened to Francesa and Russo since '98 and yes, they do pick their fights like that. Because normally, they do interviews like normal. But when they know they have to do a hardcore dig, they do it from the start. It is a little bullying, but who says we all wouldn't go there if in their shoes? I definitely don't agree with them on everything, but I can't get on them for this event from yesterday.
