The only reason this is being contemplated is because he played for the Yankees. If he played for the Royals and this happened in KC, does anyone truly believe that postponement would even be discussed? Not a chance. Its funny how E!SPNs infatuation with all things Yankee somehow validates ridiculous points of view. Also, this was some guy who died by his own hand. Its more unfortunate than it is tragic for that reason. E!SPN has gone way overboard in their coverage of this. Theres no way it should postponement should even be discussed. Perhaps it would be different if he played for the Mets, Cards, Tigers or As because that would be an unfair advantage one way or the other but this is crazy.

But beyond all else, I found the best take on this tragic story from a fake internet chat, the dugout.

Re: Cory Lidle dead
I don't think it's just that he played for the Yankees. I think it has so much media attention because of where it happened, how it happened, who it happened to, and how just tragically bizzare it is.

Re: Cory Lidle dead
Alot of them weren't when I was listening. I only caught about a 20 minute segment w. Beningo and all the callers said "I understand they were just doing their job and they had nothing personal against Lidle." And as Beningo said, they didn't do anything differently that they've done the last 15+ years.

I think it crystalizes how assinine picking fights the way they've done over the last 15+ years can be. It just shows that sometimes having some decorum and respect for the interviewee is better in the long run then badmouthing said person.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Cory Lidle dead
While I was listening, there were a few callers who had Mike and Dog's back, but for the most part, the listeners weren't too happy with them... I'd say it was about 75% of the callers who were upset with them, for the time that I was listening.
I'll be interested to listen to their show again today when it starts at 2:00.Comment

Interesting, but kinda dumb again.
The author explained it all in an early paragraph...
Monday, it was business as usual for Mike Francesa and Chris (Mad Dog) Russo. While rehashing the Yankees' Detroit debacle, they descended on Cory Lidle and pounded him.
Pounded him pretty hard.
Still, longtime listeners have heard worse crunch jobs from the boys. But Randy Miller, a reporter for the Bucks County Courier Times, who covered the pitcher when he was with the Phillies, text-messaged Lidle and suggested he call WFAN to defend himself.
Russo was very hard on Lidle, but he did make some good points (about Lidle ripping Bonds about steriods but not Giambi, etc)."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Cory Lidle dead
LOL!!! You stole that from Benigno!!! I heard him say it!!! I kept hearing the "Godfather" music as he was saying that.
Seriously, though, what I think is at the root of this lashing out at those two is that they never seem to get called out, while they are free to say whatever they want... Now, with this situation, it almost looks like they finally have a vulnerable position that people can jump on.Comment
