    Re: Cory Lidle dead

Russo just said, "to all the callers who called Joe (Beningo) this morning ripping me and Mike, you aren't going to make me feel bad - or worse than I already do."

Francesca just said that wasn't even one of our harsher interviews and one that we didn't think twice of after it was over.

Russo sounded like he was in denial. I think it would've been better for him to say that the fans are right to an extent but it's part of the business and yes, i'm guilty and feel real bad that my last words to Lidle were so harsh but that's the way it is in our business sometimes.

        He also added,

"If I ever get to the point where I hold back during an interview because something tragic might happen in the near future to the interviewee, then I have the wrong job and you should be listening to someone else."

        I agree.

          Re: Cory Lidle dead

They can say its "part of the business" all they want but that does not mean that people should accept that as an excuse nor should they expect people to accept it. Perhaps they should be more mindful of crossing the line instead of expecting others to go with the flow and accept their "its business" excuses. If they want to be in a "business" where crossing the line is expected in their eyes, they should be ready to either say, Im sorry or play it off like theyre completely callous because saying "its just business" completely diminishes the effect of what they do. I question whether theyll be as entertaining after this.

Everything Russo has said about Lidle was fair. And even if it wasn't, he was just doing his job.

            He didn't do anything wrong.

It is a valid excuse in this case.

Did some of you even hear the interview?

They didn't tell Corey Lidle that he's a big jerk and a waste of life. Lidle took some shots at Torre, he called in and did a terrible job of backing out of what he said, and they called him out on it. Nothing wrong with that.

                  Re: Cory Lidle dead

I heard the interview, and the only part I have a problem with is Russo having the stones to tell Lidle what HE should be doing after a playoff loss. Aside from that, I thought it was pretty even... I made some prejudgments on them based on my perception of them, and I can say I was wrong...

Russo said something that I respect, and agree with, that was quoted by ehh a few posts above... "If I ever get to the point that I have to hold back, I'm not doing my job, and you should be listening to someone else"... I've never warmed to Mike and the Mad Dog, and when I was in NY, I usually turned to someone else.

Something that I've been wondering, concerning the family... I really hope his wife gets some sound financial guidance. From what I gather, Lidle was gonna be a free agent, and also being that he was a replacement player during the strike, I don't think he was allowed union membership... So that would mean no pension or anything, if I've got this right... I hope everything works out for his wife and son.

Lidle earned around $20 million playing baseball. If he had any shred of financial sense, his family should be fine.

OK, cool... I didn't know he made that much money during his career... Thanks, Z.

Better. I received the transcript in the mail yesterday and I stayed up late last night studying it, fondling it, licking it,...loving it in order to prepare for this moment.

I can't believe some of you have a problem with the interview. They were talking about Lidle's quotes, everything that was said was fair and part of the job that they do. Just because Lidle died a couple days later, shouldn't change your perception of the whole thing. None of us had a problem when the interview happened, why have one now?
