New All-Star Affecting World Series Idea Is STUPID

Baseball owners unanimously approved commissioner Bud Selig's proposal to have the league that wins the All-Star Game get home-field advantage in the World Series.

This has to be the worst idea ever. IMO, this crosses the line, ok the winner of the all-star game, that league gets home field advantage for the world series?? Ok, so this defeats the purpose of having a good record so that if you do make it the to the series, and your record is better than your opponent's you've earned the home field advantage. Basically, let's say some Devil Rays pitcher gives up the game winning hit to a Marlins player, and therefore in the world series the Yankees, who let's say have the best record in baseball, don't get home field advantage over let's say the cinderella Cubs, all because some damn Devil Rays pitcher lost the game for the American League in the all-star game. If we use this example, then in the end, we've let the damn world series be affected by 2 players that have nothing to do with the series and say their teams didn't even have to make the playoffs.

Let's go all the way with this idea...let's not have a season at all, we'll just have all-star game and let's say the teams that go to the "playoffs" are determined by the player that wins the HR derby, the player that gets the win for the AS game, the player that gets the save, and the MVP of the game.

For the world series, forget home field advantage, the series will be played in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

I thought home field in the World Series switched on a yearly basis.... I could be wrong though.

Nope, I'm right... home field advantage is pre-determined on a rotational basis... American League, then National League, then American League and so on and so forth.

Team's records still matter in the playoffs, but not in the World Series.

I can see why they are trying to pass this new rule... gives some meaning to the all-star game, some reason to try to play it to win. I just don't think it really matters since half of the guys who will be playing in the All Star game will be on teams that aren't in contention anyways.

      I'm really indifferent to it.

It doesn't matter to me, they switch it every year, so its not like the best team recordwise always gets it anyway

I always thought it was based on record, sorry if I reported it wrong. I see they're trying to make it so the game means something, but last year's game was competitive, most fans were just upset they ended the game as a tie, I don't see how this "new idea" changes the problems of last year's AS game. I think to the players the game is a exhibition, it's nice to be out there but to play it having the same mindset as a important regular season game with your actual team is the problem I see. This idea still needs the players approval, which it won't get.

No it switches like Guru said, but I agree the All Star game Idea is stupid, it just shows how out of touch with reality Selig is.

He's just trying to win back some fans because he knew he blew it last year when he called that tie and this will probably be liked and dislike by fans only time will tell how the allstar game will be played now. It would be fun to see pedro going out there and plunking Bonds in the 9th inning with a runner on 2nd and first base open to try to perserve the game... I know Giant fans wouldnt like that but i'm a dodger fan

It's not just Selig though.... this passed with UNANIMOUS consent by the owners.

Surprise, Surprise.... it was pushed an lobbied for by the FOX network who owns th rights to the game for the next 3 or 4 years I think.

I'm not sure I like the idea or not, but I don't think this will be approved by the player's association, so it won't really matter.
