Lilly Could Sign With Cubs Soon

It looks as though the Blue Jays will not be able to resign starting pitcher Ted Lilly.

Sources have told Metro that the free-agent left-hander is on the verge of agreeing to a four-year deal worth $37.5-million US with the Chicago Cubs.
It's on page 27. If true, I really like the signing. The Cubs are overpaying, but that seems to be the trend this off-season.

    Thanks I couldn't find a link earlier.

Lilly would crash and burn in Wrigleyville. He'll see a lot of balls going down Waveland Avenue in my opinion.

Normally i'd agree but again going from AL to NL has been good to some pitchers lately. See: Arroyo. I do like that the Cubs are aggressive this year and are making some good moves. They would be overpaying but again who hasn't been overpayed this year.

You mean to tell me that Ted Effin Lilly -- who has never been more than two games over .500, and has never had an ERA even remotely close to the mid-3's -- is about to get almost $10M a year? What the hell is this, the off-season of seeing who can make the most absolutely absurd free agent signing? This has reached a point of sheer stupidity now.

Agreed, it's gotten really bad this offseason.

Looking back on it the Jays' signing of Burnett and Ryan look like absolute steals now.

Eh, what can you do... the market is dictating everything now, and as long as you're a starter than can eat up a decent amount of innings, teams are going to shell out the cash to get you, especially in a crazy offseason like this one..

Not sure if I like this guy. Any Jays fans have anything good to say about him?

He chews up innings. That's the only good thing you can say about him. He's a 10-10 or 12-15 type of starter.

He's probably a #4 or #5 starter. From what I remember of him with the Yankees he had an above average curve and a low 90s fastball.

Eh, another medicore pitcher that will reap the benefits of this free agency spending.

I'm not a Jays fan but i will say for whatever reason Lilly kills the Red Sox so if so even though i'm against the money any deal that takes him out of the AL East is fine with me.

Lol yeah, if there's a slight reason why we should miss him, it's because of that. Last season he was mediocre against everybody but the Sox.

That's exactly what the Cubs need. I don't want to see 7 different rookies make a start for the Cubs again this year, I want a guy who can get 180-200 innings and a .500 record. As long as he doesn't get into it with Lou, I'm fine.

Was the incident with Gibbons an isolated incident or is he always that moody?

I hope its true...but Marty York is the same guy who said the Cards signed Burnett to a 6/70 deal last year and also said that Vernon Wells was traded at the deadline this year, so I'm not taking anything he says seriously.
