Terrible moves by the Cubs, you don't overpay to get an average pitcher, you overpay to get a proven pitcher(Zito, Schmidt).
As a Cubs fan, Hendry better be working on a trade for staring pitcher, I don't want to see an opening day rotation that includes Hill, Marshall, and Lilly.
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.

The Cubs and a few other teams are pursuing Jennings from Colorado. I'm not sure if the Cubs have the prospects to get it done, but is sure would be nice to have a guy like Jennings pitching behind Zambrano. He does give up a lot of walks though.

Lou Pinellia likes to yank his pitchers like he's yanking his nose hairs so he may have problems with Lilly's attitude if he yanks him too early too often. Not to mention Lilly seems to be good every other year and 2007 is due to be his bad year. As a Jays fan I'm just glad he's the Cubs problem and we're not stuck overpaying him for 4 years. Like what's been said he's a slightly above average pitcher who will log you innings when healthy but will give you as many losses as wins. He's a borderline #3 starter. When he's off and his curve ball is not moving, which seems to be every other start, it will be like batting practice for the opposing batters, he tends to get shelled because he has no velocity and no other bread and butter pitch.

Looks like the Cubs are going after Marquis as well.

Ugh. I don't want him pitching at Wrigley with his infatuation with giving up HR's .

              Night ERA: 4.22
              Grass ERA: 5.25

Thats not so good, but we'll see.
Considering those numbers are in the AL, and he had a pretty poor start to last year, you can expect those to be a half run better in the NL next year. It wouldn't shock me if his '07 season is similar to Bronson Arroyo's '06.

Oh please let it be true!

The guy is a headcase and has an attitude problem for one, when you won't listen to advice from Leo Mazzone and Dave Duncan you won't listen to anyone, then on top of it as was mentioned hes a HR machine, so I really hope the Cubs do sign him, keep him in the NL Central just not on the Cardinals.

Well, like I said, the stats are an average of the last three years, not just last year. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/player...ching3&three=1

And actually, he didnt really do that poorly last year, except for in May and August, so his poorness was pretty well spread out. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/player...?playerId=4062

Like I said, he had a 5+ ERA in while pitching in the daytime and outdoors, which describes the majority of the Cubs games. Will he be 2007's version of Arroyo? I think that may be a little optimistic, but I'd take it.

Ted Lilly= below league average pitcher over the last 5 years.

His ERA? 4.60 League avg? 4.57

BTW I heard an interview with Les Grobstein last night. The Cubs are actually saying right now that Lilly's their #2 starter.

It's gonna be a LOOOONG year in Wrigleyville if that's the case.

The fact that Ted Lilly could be the #2 starter if Hendry doesn't make a trade for a guy like Jennings or Bonderman is scary. Rich Hill emerged as a possible #2 or #3 with a good September, but he'd have to pitch like that for a whole season. Counting on Prior to be healthy has killed the Cubs the past few years and it might happen again.

Both Hendry and Piniella have stated that they are not counting on Prior this year. If he comes in healthy and stays that way, its like winning the lottery. But they both have said they are planning for a year without him.
Everyone is down on Ted Lilly, but really who else is/was out there. Please don't say Schmidt or Zito, because I have plenty of stats and information to backup why they shouldn't be Cubs.
