There are a few nasty rumors about him One being that he's a former steroid user who isn't the same off the juice. The second being he has a terrible attitude (clubhouse cancer).

If he's anything like his brother, I can believe both rumors. Brian was a jerk while playing in Pittsburgh. Not to fans, but in the clubhouse. I have a buddy who works in the Pirates Organization and he told me some of the stuff Brian used to do.

Sorry to take this off the topic but I just have one question. You can answer in PM if you want. Does your friend still work for the organization? If so, is Jason Bay as good a guy in private as he appears to be in public. He is one of those truly nice guys from everything i've seen of him. If he's a jerk away from the camera that would really bum me out but i'm still curious.

        This sucks. Really, really sucks.

Marcus has been a client where I work for the entire time that I've been there, and he's a great guy. Baseball stuff completely aside, I'm really going to miss seeing his little dog, Louey. I hope they are able to find a nice home where ever Marcus ends up, and that Louey can find a daycare that enjoyed having her around as much as we did. Marcus also had two other German short-haired pointers -- Ammo and Gucci -- that we took care of prior to Louey, but given their most recent addition to the family last Spring, they had to get rid of the GSPs, who one of our client's father was kind enough to adopt and take care of. I'm gonna miss seeing Marcus, Tracy and the rest of the Giles family throughout the season this year.

        Here's to you, Louey!

So, good luck to the Giles clan, we enjoyed serving you.

Oh yeah....Giles at Shea would be great!
We were looking for Lugo....that didn't work and although Valentin was a nice surprise...he really tailed off and then got injured...so Minaya was looking for a good replacement.
          He'll do!
Could it be possible, I'll be thanking Atlanta TWICE in one off-season?

I guess I am confused but what are you thanking the Braves for to begin with, Glavine, he was already a Met. Back to Giles do not forget he was moved to the leadoff spot. And he is not a leadoff hitter. I may have not been a Furcal guy but he did a great job. Giles could not have seriously been considered by the Braves to fill those shoes. Anyway I like Giles, but I did have my questions about somethings he did. I have to hand it to him though he realized he had a weakness in his defense and in one year made a lot of progress, you could tell he tried really hard. But that was back in like 2003. He seemed to be like SPTO said a throwback. His swing may have not been nice but I really liked to watch it.

So that's why we never traded Linebrink to them for Giles.

                C'mon....get serious...
He was a Met LAST year. If the Braves would have made a HALF-hearted attempt at signing him....he'd be back with the Braves right now. While he's not the "great"(he was great for us last year) pitcher he was with Atlanta...the Mets really needed to keep and just HAVE a solid proven major league pitcher on their squad and with the Braves not even trying....they provided that for the Mets.

I guess I really was not looking at that as something to thank the Braves for.

Keep in mind Linebrink is a free agent after 2007. Not sure if teams would be that desperate for a reliever.

I'm hoping we trade Linebrink too, but if we keep him I'm fine with that.

                        Re: Marcus Giles released

General Manager Kevin Towers said he made a contractual offer yesterday to second baseman Marcus Giles, the former Braves regular who became a free agent on Tuesday night. The proposal is believed to be worth $3 million to $4 million.

The Mets reportedly also are interested in Giles. An executive with another major league club said he wouldn't be surprised if the Red Sox also made a play for him, although Giles' brother, Brian Giles, the Padres' right fielder, put Boston on his eight-team, no-trade list.

Marcus Giles, 28, had a $3.85 million salary this year, but the Braves likely would have owed him more than $5 million if they had offered him a contract.

Hopefully if we do sign him it gets (Brian) Giles to finally get off his *** and start playing like the player we traded for instead of an underachieving Phil Nevin/Ryan Klesko-esque crap.

With the gaps at Petco, Marcus is going to be an effin beast.

The Giles family reunion is on.

Free-agent second baseman Marcus Giles is expected to sign with the Padres early this week, joining his older brother, right fielder Brian Giles, FOXSports.com has learned.

Marcus, 28, likely will agree to a one-year deal and possibly a club option. His salary will be significantly less than the $5.5 million that he might have earned in salary arbitration with the Braves, who declined to offer him a contract.
