You have to be kidding me. Did Bob Costas really say that? If he did, than he doesn't know anything about the NHL.

No, I said that, not him. I really think long term the NHL is better off for having Bettman.

Bettman was a big reason why the on ice product was awful and how salaries got out of hand. I give him little credit for fixing a problem he helped create.

If you talk to most hardcore hockey fans, they will tell you they can't wait until Bettman is gone from the league. This idiot thought it would be a good idea to remove the NHL from ESPN so it could be on the bike channel.

I may have already stated this in this thread, but it kills me how the late 1970's/early-mid 1980's are looked down upon in terms of offensive numbers. The same writers who refuse to vote for Dawson, Rice, Murphy because their numbers don't compare to the '90's and today are the same ones who refuse to vote for McGwire/Belle/etc. because their numbers (for whatever reason) are inflated. Pick one or the other!
Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly. They can't have it both ways. I don't get the bias towards the guys from that era. Baseball was just as competitive as it is today, if not more so with less teams.

Don't forget the two Canadians franchises that was lost south of the border, and now the Pens going possibly to KC. You got to be kidding me! Sorry for the rant, back to baseball, congrats to Gwynn & Ripken.
