I know this is off topic, but

FB is the ONLY sport with a hard cap. Can you give a 20 mil signing bonus in the NFL, sure, but it will be prorated for the life of the contract. There is no luxury cap because your not allowed to go over the cap for the current after March 1. During the season, no team is over the current cap, but you can, and most teams are over th cap for the next yr. And there are sizeable differences in payroll, if there wasnt, explain to me how the Cards are going into this season roughly 40 under the $75mil cap, and the Raiders are almost $40mil over. The reason it doesnt seem that way is because every team starts with and can finish with $75(last yr it was 73.9), unlike BB, where most teams(mostly small market) "lose" money and r on tight budgets.

Exactly Blaise. So Pauly, I think you need to figure out the definition of a hard salary cap. I didn't see anyone heaping praise on the Angels, but give them credit, they were a better team than the Yankees and they won it all.

And if you would read my last post, I didn't blame the problems on Steinbrenner, I said the Yankees stayed within the rules of the game, but it's still not good for baseball.

I am as diehard a Yankee fan as you will find, and even I admit the Yanks got outplayed by the Angels last year in every aspect of the game. This year will be interesting for sure. The Angels got hot at the right time last year and were clicking on all cylinders. Sometimes it's hard to re-capture that magic the next year, but it should be a good battle for the pennant.

I'm a Yankee fan, I watch there games as much as I can. So don't tell me I don't know anything about him. He might have hit a couple of homeruns on pitches out of the strike zone. But mostly, they are good pitches to hit. You think somehow hes able to hit pitches in the dirt over then fence, but can't do it on pitches down the middle? Oh but of course, if he stopped swinging at pitches a foot over his head, his homerun numbers will go down, since we all know those are pitches that he hits for homeruns If he hits the bad pitches for homeruns, why does he have 150 strikeouts?? He seems to be missing a lot more of them than hes hitting.

Re: What a joke Soriano better than Ichiro !

I thik what that guy is missing is, if he stopped swinging at bad pitches, maybe, just maybe, he may..........dare i say it.............walk once every other game, rather than once every other month. I dont about you, but a walk is just as good as a hit in my book.

Here is a list of things one can accomplish by walking:

                  1. Get on base - As a hitter, esp a leadoff hitter, your #1 job is to get on base anyway you can. Yes a solo hr is nice, but most managers would rather have a 2run hr or a big inning than a solo shot and 3 straight outs.

                  2. Get the pitcher to delve into his arsenal - By working the count and walking, you get to see more pitches, thus getting a better feel for the pitcher, and hopefully being able to pick up his pitches easier.

                  3. Get ON BASE!!!! - Walking alot you can raise your OBP anywhere from 50 to 150 points, depending on how much you walk. And if you have speed, maybe, just maybe you'll steal 40-70 bases a yr.

                  4. Cause the pitcher to make a mistake - By walking, the pitchers approach to the next batter changes. He now has to contend with the runner on base(presumably 1st), and the hitter trying to advance the runner. By trying to force the double play, keep the runner close by throwing over (which may lead to an error), and trying to make a good pitch to the batter, may lead to something not so good.

I guess it would be a real crying shame if he had a .315 avg, only 35hrs, over 200hits, and maybe 60 - 80 walks, and only 85 - 100 SO's. Guess that wouldnt be good enough to wear those pinstripes or make the All-Star Team, huh? tsk, tsk....

Did i mention that I'm a Mets fan who abhors the Yankees, I f-ing loathe them, but I hate players with bad fundamentals even more, and those with no plate discipline are on my **** list as well.

Please note - As much I like the guy, Would someone please tell Nomar its ok not to swing sometimes???? He wonders why his wrist hurt so much. It can only be 2 things, Either he gets bored and horny when Mia isnt around, or that he swings at too many damn pitches, and personally, I pick the latter half of my statement.

All I am saying is that in my opinion, Soriano wont be the same hitter. I saw that guy hit doubles from pitches that were in the dirt. His confidence in his swing is the reason he swings at everything. Now, I will not disagree with saying yes if he learn some patience, he could be, emphasis on the word could be a better hitter. But watching this guy last year, I dont see it catching up wiht him. Last year everyone said he would do alright stat wise becuase of his swing at everyhitng attitude, and look what he did. Peter Gammons from ESPN said this time last year that not to expect anything more than 15 HR 70RBI and 30 SB form this guy. I think Soriano has what Vlad has. Vlad as learned to be patient, but not that patient. He is the best badball hitter in the majors. I see Soriano going to route of Vlad, not Barry. That is my opinion.
