Listen I'm a Yankee fan, but the other teams have just is much money argument is pathetic. George spends money because of the revenue the Yankees get. He doesn't just spend all his pocket money on them Yes other owners are rich, but if they put lots of money into there team they are gonna lose money.

That said, the Yankees aren't the only team that can spend lots of money. The Mets play in the same market, the Red Sox are in a big market. So are the Chicago teams and the Dodgers. So there are quite a few teams who have almost an unlimited payroll like them, they just don't spend there money wisely, and there are a couple of teams who don't spend money they should be spending

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

This is so true, I get tired of listening to how the Yankees buy championships.... Other than a few select Players on this team, everyone else came up through the farm sysytem... guys like Jeter, Bernie, Posada, Soriano, and Pettitte.... then you have the guys who came here via the trade, like Clemens, Boomer originally before last season, Weaver, Mondesi, and Ventura. But free agency goes for every team. I hear about what the Yankees did to sign Giambi, Matsui, Moose, and Contreras... But its no different than say Texas with A-Rod and Juan Gone..... But you dont hear anything about them cause they are a bunch of losers down there.. People gripe because there are 2 different kinds of baseball fans.... Yankee lovers and Yankee haters, and teams like the Mets, White Sox, and A's still exist in multi-team cities, cause of those reasons.... They need someone to root for.... There is a jealousy factor involved, same reason why i hate the Cowboys in football..... Because they have always beaten the teams I like, but I dont go into the football message boards whining about how my team dont win and the Cowboys can still spend money to get better. If your team dont spend the money, they wont win, so all you're doing by going to their games, is making the owners rich.... George puts his own money into making the Yankees great.... He shouldnt be knocked for wanting to win... Would you feel better if the Yankees just let you guys win, would that make you quit crying, to have it just given to you, and you knowing that you won, even though you werent the best.... Im glad the Angels won last year if the Yankees didnt, becuase you could tell, the Yankees just handed that series to them. So let their Mickey Mouse fans enjoy this past off season, cause it wont happen again....

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

First of all it doesnt happen in football because there is a "hard" salary cap so there are no huge discrepncies in payroll. Second of all George no longer spends his own money on the team. He makes the decisions, but the money doesn't come out of his pocket. Third of all the Angels beat the Yankees in every aspect of the game. The Yankees didn't hand it to them. The Angels flat out bombed the Yankees pitching staff, they scored 9 runs a game in their 3 wins over the Yankees in the playoffs. And calling Angel fans, Mickey Mouse fans, and saying they will never win another title again just shows your bitterness. The Angels had a better team last year, live with it.

If the yankees make money, George makes money. He is the owner of the team. Any argument stating that he also makes profit from the YES Network or other things is ridiculous.

How do you think the YES Network got started? Straight from the revenue the Yankees made. Which becomes George's revenue. He spent money to put that station up and now is raking in the benefits.

You are knocking him b/c he's a smart business man? If every team in baseball were owned by owners similar to George, the state of baseball would be amazing. Teams would be maximizing profits, attempting to fill stadiums, and make business agreements with organizations outside of the game of baseball.

That kind of stuff makes you successful. I'd have George run my business any day.

dooch, that may be true but I don't think the league suddenly started doing that. Thats all they did for the first year he came over and it didn't work. The other reason why I think if healthy he can replicate his 2001 numbers is, he was better in the first half of 2002 then he was in all of 2001. Average was higher and his OBP was 50 points higher. Right before the allstar break he started to slow down. Then suddenly he stopped stealing and he didn't have that same speed. Not to mention he became a horrible hitter over night. His OBP dropped 100 points in one half. Did the league figure him out.....I don't think so, but we'll find out.

First off, if Soriano gets plate discipline, he is not the same hitter. His K's would go down and so would RBI's and HR's. The only reason he hit some many HR is becuause he is swining at everything. That is what makes him great. The K's dont bother Torre so they dont bother me. and Who ever said Soriano is a sptting image of Barry Bonds is whacked out on reefer. Soriano is not like Barry at all. Soriano is a bad ball hitter, not like Barry. But in my opinion I would pick Soriano over Ichiro anyday of the week.
