I don't get some of your point about the strikeouts. Soriano leads off, his job is to get on base, not ground out to move someone over. So who cares if he strikes out??

Strikeouts no matter where the batter hits in the lineup are overated anyway

Exactly NYJets37. Yes, I'd rather have the player making contact than swinging and missing, but high strikeouts doesn't mean a bad results, proved last year from Jose Hernandez.

            end result:

Ichiro is overrated by the fans: he should not be starting the all-star game every year. we know this. and let's not blame Japan for it b/c America throws in their fair share of votes. I'm not sayin Ichiro isn't a very good player. B/c he is. I just think he's overvalued. There are a number of outfielders I rather have on my team over him anyday.

Soriano is overrated: Gonna be a very good player. But people are already comparing him to Vlad. Let's wait and see. Give him some time before we start comparing him to great players. *NOTE: I didn't compare him to ARod. I just said he'll have a similar down year and then rise from there. That's not sayin he'll end up like ARod. Some of ya'll really need to work on your reading skills.

Strikeouts are overrated: An out is an out. yes, it doesnt move a runner over on a groundball, or doesn't create a sac fly, but I can say the same about groundouts. Groundouts create the opportunity of hitting into a double play, thus creating two outs. Flyouts are never sure to be deep enough to move a runner over and could always just be a waste. An out is an out. Strikeouts do not hurt the team as bad as scouts make it out to be.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

You obviously have a hatred towards the Yankees. Because everyone outside of you knows that Soriano is a stud. Not taking anything away from Ichiro, because he is extremely solid. But if you ask almost any GM, who would you rather have right now, I'm sure most would take Soriano. And you keep harping about the K's- Who cares? It didn't affect the careers or Reggie, Thome, etc. The guy has the potential to do 40/40 almost every year. I'll take that in a heartbeat. And his defense improved greatly over the 2nd half of the season. The postion is new to him, so give the guy some time to learn it. He's not the best at the moment, but give him a few more years under his belt and I'm sure he'll be pretty solid defensively.

Very good points Dooch. I will say it again, I am about as big a Yankee ***** as there is. But there is no denying that Soriano is already a very good player, and has a huge amount of potential. To put up the numbers he did last year in only his 2nd full season in the bigs is pretty remarkable. I do expect him to come down to earth a bit this year. But still he will be a very very good player for years to come.

BK-Well said. While I am a diehard Yankee fan, you have to be a total Yankee ***** to not see his potential. The ball just flies off his bat- he makes it look so effortless. The comparisons to Vladdy are not that far off. Give him a few more years and look out.

It's all about bat speed dooch. And his bat is electric, there's no doubt. Now if I could just figure out a way to get him on the Padres.
