It's all about bat speed dooch. And his bat is electric, there's no doubt. Now if I could just figure out a way to get him on the Padres.

    No way

We gave you our other top in field prospect from a couple of years ago, De Angleo Jiminez. Hows he doing, i haven't kept up on him?

DeAngelo was playing pretty well imo. But they moved him to the White Sox for a couple of minor leaguers.

the padres almost had him along with alot of teams. He was on the trading block because his value was high and people in the Yankees organization thought he would struggle at the major league level becuase of his horrible walk rate. They are sure glad they kept him now.

He was on the trading block because they had chances to get guys like Sammy Sosa and Juan Gonzalez, what makes you think they thought he would struggle?

Actually NYjets, Kerplunk is right. The Padres almost got him for a song and a dance 2 years ago (right before his rookie year).

I was just using those 2 guys as an example. The Yankees pulled out of almost every trade that he was in. Kerplunk made it sound like they were trying to give him away and nobody would take him and they lucked out. If that wasn't your intention I'm sorry

Re: What a joke Soriano better than Ichiro !

The same problem that he has in the majors, he doesn't take any walks at all. Most players can't produce if they don't get on base at a decent clip. Why do all the talented minor leaguers never turn into successful major league players? plate discipline. What happened in Soriano's case is, they saw a raw talented prospect. People were pretty high on him. Then as he progressed through the minors he never started to take walks, and his performace suffered. The Yankees saw this, wanted to trade him while he still had value, before he turned into a tools player that never panned out(happens ALL the time). Infact there as never EVER been a player with a K/BB that bad perform as well as he did. Here's John Sickels take on Soriano.

"I think what we have here is a player whose natural tools are so great that they allow him to overcome what would otherwise be critical, if not fatal, flaws in his game. The scary thing about Soriano is if you consider how good he may yet become. Adding a bit more refinement to his game could take him to historic heights. Check that; he's already at historic heights. Adding refinement could keep him there, or push the envelope even further upward."
When you think of players who had unexpected great seasons, look no further than Alfonso Soriano in 2002.

This will explain why Soriano's season was so strange, and pretty much communicate what I was trying to say earlier.

In other words the Yankees got lucky(sorry, there not the all knowing baseball organization that you seem to think they are)
