SP used the word exacerbating, I like that

I voted no. I think he has a legit shot at getting 60. However I think he hits around 54-55.

      1. He had as much pressure on him coming into this season as anybody in sports. He seems to be doing ok.

      2. Again, he already gets an incredible amount of attention by the media. There have been very few days the last couple of seasons where the media wasn't writing about him.

I don't see the pressure for the homerun record being any worse than anything he's faced before. Yes it's a big story, but if he finishes the year with 65 homeruns, instead of 74, no one is going to get on him. It's nothing compared to what he faces in the playoffs, and we'll face in this year's playoffs if they get there.

Once they find out that he is actually a home run threat this year, he very well may get the Bonds treatment. The only reason he may not is because Giambi bats behind him.

        But I don't believe he'll break it.

I say YES. A-ROD is on a mission this year & finally looks like he's gonna let his bat do all the talking. He's trimmed down the FAT & looks in the best shape of his career. My hope is that Yankee Fans cut him some slack, if/when he starts to cool-down.

Nope, he may hit 50, but won't even hit 60.

That is what was special about Bonds, he got 1 to 2 pitch a night and he did not miss it.

I don't think it will be similar because Bonds was in a weak line up. If you constantly walk A-Rod, you're facing Giambi and/or Matsui from the stretch. Not fun for the opposing pitcher.

I said no, but I would like him to break the record.

It just scares me what maybe the greatest player around right now is doing in a possible contract year.

It's definitely going to be a contract year regardless - the question is if he leaves NY. He's going to opt out so he can lock up another 5-7 years of guaranteed money, whether it's in the Bronx or elsewhere. I honestly don't see him leaving, and we all know Georgie and Cashman will pay - especially if he continues his amazing start.

Er, Bonds' "specialness" had mostly to with something else entirely...

While I personally do not like A-Rod, he would be a better representative of the record than Bonds.

I do not believe that he will break the record, however. Going into this season, A-Rod has shown that he has a tendency to shrivel when the pressure is on. While I realize that he has already delivered in several pressure moments this season, I also realize that it is April, and there really is no pressure in April, at least nothing like he would be facing in Aug-September.

If he can hold up to the pressure, the record will be his. He will not be pitched around like Bonds. Better to give up a solo shot to A-Rod than a 2 run shot to Giambi or Matsui or whatever other player the Yanks pick up at the trading deadline.
Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!
