    Definitely.

We don't know what was said on the field, but it should've been avoided by both players. Chris Young really didn't need to walk up to Derrek Lee's vicinity nor did Lee need to take a swipe at Young.

I see Young missing at least a start and Lee missing a few games from this, but I'm not sure about Peavy and the Cubs Hitting Coach (video showed Peavy going around to restrain Lee, but was pulled down by his head by the Cubs Hitting Coach, both were ejected).

Suspension wise, what do you guys think will happen? Maybe 10 for Lee and one start for Young?

The blame should be dished out to many players. I'm talking about Peavy's idiotic comments in the paper, Young walking toward Lee, Lee responding to him, the umpiring paying more attention to some random catcher (Bowen?) and not directing Lee to first, Soriano, Hudson and the rest of the Braves, etc.

It's a mess that needs to stop soon. That or someone needs to get hurt badly.. I'm sick of seeing these mini brawls resulting in bickering and ejections but without any battle wounds. I know that sounds sick, but if you're going to get a harsh suspension, at least land a direct hit.

My mind's fuzzy on the precedent for situations like this, but I say it depends on what Young said. If he said something about Lee's daughter, then give Lee 5 and Young 5 starts worth. If Lee started it, I say give him 10 and Young 10 games (which probably equals 2 starts).

I dont know, depending on what Young said, he only deserves a game, if that. If Lee swung at him for no apparent reason, then Young is relatively innocent. Lee will probably get 5-7 games max. None of it would've happened if the homeplate ump would've been doing his job.

I really hope the MLB sees it your way. If precedent for these types of situations follows your opinion, then I agree.

Really, when broken down, and now that I've had time to think about it, it wasnt really that big of a brawl. I mean, whats the difference between this and a guy charging the mound? I think Lee's track record and the fact that he didnt attack him with a bat or whatever will help. Hopefully the MLB honchos will also take into account that the homeplate ump didnt do his job either, and if he had, we wouldnt even be talking about this.

Re: Cubs need some psychiatric help

Went to the game today. One of the oddest games I have ever been too. Carlos was dealin and the SD bullpen carried them. That being said I still can't believe only 1 run was scored in those conditions today. That homer was a joke. I had a feeling if someone got the ball in the air it would carry out. D Lee needs to appeal until Ram gets back in the lineup.

Even though they have played better in close games lately, they still lose in the oddest of ways even for the Cubs. What a f'ed up year, and it's not even July. Still confident though as Carlos appears back.

Personally I agree with Peavy. I would have put the ball in Soriano's ribs his next AB. Peavy is old school, he's pretty fiery, he is what he is. If the Young was throwing at Lee, (which I can't really tell if he was), i am not sure why he threw at Lee, and not Soriano.

Lee should have shut his mouth and taken his base, and Young should have gotten the ball, and moved on to worry about the next batter.

As far as suspensions, I'd expect 5 to 10 games for Lee and a probably enough time for Young to have him miss a start or 2. There likely will be other fines for the rest of the shenanigans going on during the melee.

It's probably only going to Young, Lee, Peavy, and Perry (I think that's the name of the Cubs hitting coach). Everyone else was trying to restrain everyone (same with Peavy, but he got thrown down by Perry because Peavy was restraining Lee).

On a side note, was Carlos Zambrano really changing uniforms at the time?

I think even Branyan was surprised that one got out.

According to Tim Kurjikan on Baseball Tonight, Young initially said "I wasn't throwing at you man", and then you can't tell what was said.

Orestes Destrade didn't think Young was throwing at him, because it doesn't make sense to throw at the guy in the 4th inning if it was over the Soriano stuff from yesterday.

Yes, not to mention it was a 1-2 count and a 0-0 game.

Yeah, when that umpire missed strike 3 on Branyan 2 pitches before he hit the HR, I had a feeling Branyan was going to go deep. That umpire was extremely incompetent.

Well it looks like Chicago should have resorted to SDs dirty tricks today and started head hunting. They should have started Gallagher and then inserted Hill after Gallagher pulled a Young and was ejected for putting the pill in someones earhole.

BTW, it looks pretty bad when Peavy was quoted the day before about putting one in someones ribs. Not to mention, Young normally has good control.
