Could the Padres please wear their 1984 unis too?

Weren't those uni's voted the worst of all time on ESPN a while back?

            Young: .82 to 3.33
            Wells: 2.91 to 6.52

I understand, obviously Petco is a huge pitchers park.

But it obviously can't be too much of a part of Peavy's success when he has a .94 era on the road.

There are a lot worse uniforms. Don't pick on the McDs style unis!

Could be part of sample size. He has pitched like 12 times on the road and like 6 at home.

Regardless, Peavy is an amazing pitcher. In Petco, in Safeco, on Mars, etc.

I am pretty sure that Comerica is pretty average.
Which is why ERA and WHIP aren't the best statistics to judge a pitcher. They simply don't account for all of the different variables that affect the outcome of a pitcher's performance. They measure as if all defenders, stadiums, and score keepers are the same.

xFIP is a nice, simplistic way to measure a pitcher taking into account defense and park adjustments and putting it in an ERA format. Its not perfect, but way better than ERA and WHIP at measuring a pitcher (and avoids going way into too many metrics).

                  xFIP
                  Peavy: 3.30 (3rd in league)
                  Bonderman: 3.60
                  Young: 4.26
                  Verlander: 4.27

Eric Bedard leads all of baseball with a 2.96 xFIP. Atlanta, Houston, LAA, Baltimore, Toronto, and Cleveland all have 2 starters rated higher than Verlander. Oakland and Boston have 3 each ahead of Verlander.

Last year, Chris Young had a road ERA of 2.41 and a home ERA of 4.60. Peavy had a road ERA of 4.57 and a home ERA of 3.75.

This year, Chris Young has 3.33 road ERA while having a home ERA of 0.82. In 7 road starts, Peavy has 0.94 ERA and a 3.04 ERA at home in 11 starts.

Jose Jiminez once threw a no-hitter, I guess he's better than Peavy and Young by a mile.

How about A.J. Burnett and his 9-walk gem of a no-no?
