    Santana blasts Twins

"Johan Santana is the latest to question the Twins trade of Luis Castillo to the Mets.

The Twins ace told the Star Tribune this about management: "I'm not surprised. That's exactly how they are. That's why we're never going to go beyond where we've gone."

He didn't stop there, venting his frustrations at length and at one point saying "Why waste time when you're talking about something that's always going to be like that? It's never going to be beyond this point. It doesn't make any sense for me to be here, you know?"

The two-time Cy Young winner is a free agent after the 2008 season and the thrifty club figures to have a lot of trouble keping him around."

I can't imagine how much Santana would go for on the open market.

I'm not surprised he'd vent his frustration this way. I mean ownership has never really given management the money to do things to make the club truly an elite team. I don't blame Santana for speaking out like that. In fact I wonder if Roy Halladay ever feels this way about the Jays.

Anyways, Santana would break the bank if he were to sign elsewhere. I could see him setting a standard that wouldn't be broken for another decade IMO.

It'll be a fun bidding war between the Yankees and the Red Sox.

Boston will rarely open their wallets for free agent hitters...but if Santana went out on the market, especially with the Yankees interested, you can be damn sure they'd be willing to match whatever they were offering, to an extent.

Yea, I see another duel in the Northeast for Santana.

How do Twins feel right now? The prospect of losing Santana and Hunter? Ugh.

The Twins are going to probably let Hunter walk in the hope to build up money for Santana. Please don't let him go to NY or LA...

I don't think it's a money thing for Santana anymore, with the Twins, at least.

It's crazy but it happens to the smaller market teams I guess.

As a White Sox fan there is 2 places I'd like to see Santana pitch. On the South Side of Chicago OR the National League.

I don't blame Johan at all. The Twins keep claiming "We have to protect the future... we have to protect the future." Well, when is the future going to become "now"? We've been waiting for years for the future to come, but it's still not here yet. The Twins need to stop being so cheap and make something happen. Hunter is all but gone after this season, and then we'll be losing Nathan and Santana next season. We'll then have to start all over with the rebuilding mode and once we reach respectable again, we'll have to "protect the future." If you look at the Twins minor league system, at least on the positional prospect side, we have NOTHING to get excited over. All our good prospects are pitchers, and the Twins have proven the past 3 or 4 seasons, that good pitching doesn't mean anything unless you can score runs.
