Yeah, that was Tim Johnson. Outside of his big lie, he wasn't a bad coach though.

    Some other bad coaches :

    -Dallas Green with the Mets
    -Ray Miller (Orioles)
    -Tom Trebelhorn
-Ted Turner- Braves- (even though it was only for 1 day)

Re: The WORST manager in baseball...

the Blue Jays have fortunately been blessed with having overall good managers. The only exceptions are:

Jimy Williams because he alienated players. Heck, it was Jimy Williams tenure as Jays manager that basically saw George Bell leave the team because Williams wanted him to DH and Bell didn't want to.

Tim Johnson while he was a good manager he screwed it up for himself by lying on his application. If he never lied about all that Vietnam stuff he'd probably still be managing the team today. He was that good of a manager. He had a good rapore with his players til the Vietnam story hit and when he almost didn't have Clemens pitch in Boston.

Jim Fregosi he overworked the bullpen, was too much of a hard *** and on a road trip was found in a bar by a reporting getting liquored up and talking s#%$t about his team.

I'd have put Buck Martinez as the 3rd choice but I think he wasn't given a fair chance. The players didn't really respond to him and he just didn't have the personel for small ball.

As far as Buck Martinez goes, you say the players didn't respond to him. To me, that's the #1 sign a manager isn't good. Telling a guy when to steal has so little impact on the game these days, that most of a manager's job is ego massaging. See Dusty Baker.

Well he left two teams that eventually won championships in the Yankees and Diamondbacks. That has to say something about what he left for Joe Torre and Arizon's manager!

I know, that's why i said he knows his baseball. He's a bad people person and that comes from a lot of his former players. But yeah he's not the worst manager so i shouldn't have included him in the thread.

Yeah I know I'm just biased towards Buck I think he was a great colour commentator and I miss him doing commentary on Jays games. Now I have to suffer with John Cerutti.

I second the vote on Terry Bevignton when he managed the White Soxs. That guy couldn't manage his way out of a paper bag.
