I'm not absolving the players who took PED's. What I am saying is that MLB (and to a lesser degree, the PA) bear the brunt of the responsibility here. MLB either should've taken a tough stance from the get-go or announced that anything goes. You can't shirk your responsibilities by burying your head in the sand when it's convenient (ie, the McGwire-Sosa race to 62) and then pointing fingers afterward.

Re: Ankiel received HGH shipments
yep... he said he took medication from a doctor recovering from his Tommy John surgery and that he would have no problem talking to MLB... Don't think there's much more to the story. It was legal when he took it. He stopped when it wasn't. What's the problem?http://flotn.blogspot.com

Re: Ankiel received HGH shipments
The media is just trying to blow the thing up to be much bigger than it is.
Isn't it kind of convenient how one name gets linked to a pharmacy, then more names get linked to it? There has to be more to it than what we see..Last edited by CoRruPt-; 09-07-2007, 10:13 PM.Comment

Re: Ankiel received HGH shipments
There was a St. Louis beat writer who was on WFAN yesterday, who said that Ankiel was a pretty good hitter before he even signed with the cards, hitting 440 ft. moonshots on the regular. He didn't seem to think HGH had anything to do with his hitting prowess.Comment

Re: Ankiel received HGH shipments
My dad gets steroid injections in his knee, not the same thing but close, but he has to go to a doctor to have it done.
He doesn't get to order the drugs online himself and then inject them.
It sounds like Ankiel was given them, which doesn't sound like how it would be done for most people.Comment

Re: Ankiel received HGH shipments
HGH can improve eyesight but that's not typically. Also, for the poster way above, it does NOTHING to your hormones, so there's no risk of having any mental issues on HGH. HGH is also not a performance enhancer is not very anabolic (it won't make you get big). It will lean you nicely and help your overall sense of well-being.
And oh yeah... IF HE HAS A PRESCRIPTION, IT IS LEGAL. HGH is completely different from anabolic steroids..... it's like comparing an apple and a tire. Sports and the media have no clue... and they pass their lack of knowledge on to you guys....... it's not how it should be.
HGH was just recently banned. If he hasn't done it since it was banned I don't think it is that big of a deal.
Penguit is right. If Ankiel stacked HGH with something like testosterone it may be a different story. As far as I know Ankiel only used HGH which you can get a prescription for. There is such a thing as HRT (hormone replacement therapy) in which a person can get a prescription for HGH or an anabolic steroid such as testosterone. Yes, you can get test legally. It really wouldn't be that hard to manipulate your free testosterone levels so you could get a prescription if you wanted to but that is a whole different thing.
The media is so weird when it comes to this. I read reports like, "He was recieving steroids blah, blah, blah.......HGH, HCG, ect." They throw in stuff like HGH and HCG, which to the public, make it sound like it's all the same stuff. Reality is it isn't. HCG is a peptide. If you take HCG its not going to have effects like testosterone, deca, etc. I don't really know where I am going with all this.....my point is that the media trys to make things look one way when in fact it be another way. I'm sure a lot of people have juiced but now everyone is guilty until proven innocent.
Anyway, this will surely taint what Ankiel has done so far.Last edited by BigDofBA; 09-10-2007, 01:57 AM.***My Teams***

Re: Ankiel received HGH shipments
The really sick thing IMO is that steroids and HGH are commonly prescribed as aids to injury recover to non-athletes but because of the hysteria around performance enhancers in sports injured players cannot use them.
It's even crazier that football players aren't supposed to use them to help recover from injuries. It's arguably a disservice to their health to prevent them from using HGH considering the wear they put on their bodies.Comment

Re: Ankiel received HGH shipments
At this point it's pretty obvious that Ankiel is getting a pass on taking HGH because he's a feel-good story and a likable guy, unlike Bonds who is a grade-A *******.
