    thats a legit question.

    which poses another question...

why do it in the first place?
You do it in the first place to catch up because others were trying to get ahead. If everyone is doing in then the playing field IS leveled to a degree. Also, this is still the fault of MLB for not having a solid testing program in place years ago. This witch hunt is stupid.

If Rose isn't in for gambling, no player who has been proven to have used/been supplied steroids should not be allowed in, in my opinion.

If McGuire's and Bonds' are, then they have to be.

No Chipper Jones on that unofficial list, I hope it stays that way.

But not everyone is doing it. Until it's 100%, it's not a level playing field. Regardless, it doesn't make it right.

And I have no clue why you'd feel the need to do them. I guess some individuals may feel like they're at the decline of their career and want something to keep them going a little longer. Keep playing, keep making money.

I hope not. Andy Pettitte is my favorite Major League Baseball player of all time.

I think so. McGwire was a fringe HOFer to begin with, and he only received about 24% of the vote in his first year of eligibility. It'll be interesting to see the voting when Pettitte and Clemens become eligible.

MLB did this to themselves. They turned a blind eye to roids after the strike because they wanted the '98 home run chase to make everyone forget about the strike. Now they're paying the piper...

MLB has always been slow to put in drug testing, mainly because they let the union push them around. Steve Howe was suspended for drugs 7 freaking times, yet they kept allowing him back into baseball. Think the NBA or NFL would do that?

I'd say yes. Like they've mentioned a few times, McGwire got less than 25% of votes. I think while Clemens will get more, it won't be enough to get him into the HOF.

Andy was a HOFer? 200 wins with a 3.83 ERA? Man, HOF standards must be dookie now.

Pettitte wasn't going to get in anyway, but Clemens is arguably the best pitcher of all time. With that being said, I agree with you. As much as I love Pettitte he doesn't belong. It'll be interesting to see what other HOF's are there.

man, taking a look at the unconfirmed list... if this happens to be even close, this whole thing is more sad and a joke.. for every star player, there must be like another 15-20 fringe or never-has or never-were players on that list..

                            Paxton Crawford??? Damian Moss??

This report will have zero impact on the game other than affecting future Hall of Fame balloting. The game and its fans will shrug it off within weeks.

By January, this report will be forgotten, and all people will care about is circling the date in February when pitchers and catchers report to spring training.

The entire Mitchell Report is just a Pontius Pilate-style hand washing of this inconvenient drug affair by Bud Selig, who turned a blind eye in the 90s and let the drug problem mushroom.

It's much ado about something, a something that means nothing to people in baseball and its fans.

                              Take care,
