Trade for Neifi Perez?...i'm pretty sure the Tigers would give them Perez.

In all seriousness Perez will be a free agent this winter if any team actually wants him. However, he will have to finish serving out his 80 game suspension so he will miss the first 26 games of next season if he does sign somewhere.

I can't believe Dusty Baker is the Reds manager. Worst decision ever. Here's what's gonna happen, and I'm calling it right now.

Year 1: will win a lot of games in first half of season, team will miss playoffs but everybody will regard it as a positive year and a step forward.
Year 2: Some people pick Reds as sleeper team and the Reds start out will hot and be one of the better teams in the NL. people start talking playoffs until Baker continually abuses his starters, misuses his bullpen and the Reds sputter to a third or fourth place finish.
Year 3: People think it was bad luck what happened to the Reds and that they could be a fringe playoff team. But the Reds are never able to get on track and finish in fourth place.
Year 4: Having completely abused his starters and mismanaged his bullpen, the Reds have trouble staying out of last place. Baker is fired in August.
So you think he'll go longer than his 3 year deal. Interesting. You're giving him more credit than most.

          Dusty is at it again.

He sure doesn't like those "base cloggers" very much. He must have absolutely hated having Barry all those years...

            Yes.
Dusty is a tool...I almost believe he is among the tip-top reasons Prior and Wood crapped out.

I 100% believe he is the reason the Cubs did not make the WS a few years ago.

Nope the reason for that is because the team is cursed.

He did keep Prior in way too long. But other than that he really didn't do anything really wrong that entire year imo. My only real complaint about Dusty is that he plays too many washed up veterans instead of taking chances on younger players.

The blame should have been on Moises Alou. He could have kept his teamates' heads in the game by not throwing a hissy fit and instead he went nuts and lucked into being vindicated while some guy named Bartman is now John Smithson and can't set foot in Chicago. Dusty Baker is a moron and I feel bad for Reds fans because he's so frustrating but that series came down to Alou being a dolt and Gonzalez muffing a ground ball.

I agree, and if he has that reputation, why hire him to take over a team with a lot of talented young players in its farm system? I don't get it.

As a Reds fan I like the move. The Reds need a no nonsense type manager like Baker. And the arguement that he ruined Wood and Prior is a joke. Too many people watch espn like its a bible. Wood had surgery and arm problems before Baker was a Cub and Prior's problems started when he ran into Marcus Giles at secondbase. If you cant throw 130pitches in a game your not worth a damn anyways.

ELDoro, I have read some things that suggest that it wasn't nearly as much his fault as people claim and I can see that side of the argument. Plus I tend to agree with you that as a pitcher you should be able to throw 130 pitches each game and not be a broken noodle afterwards.

With that said, I am nervous about how he will handle this team. Between the "OBP is overrated" argument he makes (which is about as dumb as dumb gets) to the constant hype on Norris Hopper, I am afraid he might not give Bruce the chance he deserves to start the season. now granted, if Bruce plays spring training and bats .275 then maybe starting of in AAA is warranted, but if he hits .330+, I think he should start in C for the Reds on Opening Day. I also think that Votto shouldn't even have to fight for 1st base. I love Hatteberg, but he knows it is time to pass the torch and seems to be ok with it. My gut feeling says he plays them both nearly equal and Votto doesn't get the at bats he needs to get to be happy and productive.

But I am willing to at least give him a shot and see what happens (like me giving him a shot means a darn thing LOL). I think that by June we should have a real good idea how he will run this team and hopefully it will be for the positive. The Reds have more young talent than they have had in a VERY long time and I am really looking forward to them progressing as Reds.

Well if you were looking for a no nonsense type manager you won't like Dusty Baker. He is one of the most leniant player friendly managers around.
