Re: Dusty Baker to the Reds

I am concerned about Baker's OBP perception.

I wasnt really speaking too much on Baker's player friendly attitude but more towards the actual game. If your a Reds fan Bob Boone is the first one that comes to my mind

No nonsense?! Dusty is ALL nonsense.

Sorry, but just because guys in the old days threw a bunch of pitches because nobody knew any better doesn't mean pitch counts aren't important.

Dusty brings in Corey Patterson, so now there is a 4 way battle for CF. I don't get it...

Yeah not sure what to make of that. My best guess is that it makes it more likely that Bruce will start out the year in Louisville.

Which even makes less sense. Baker himself said that Bruce has more at bats than anyone because he wants to see if he can make it, and here is Bruce sitting there with a .500 avg. Yes he had a slight hiccup with his leg, but let's see how the rest of spring unfolds once he gets back out there. Will be interesting to see if they put Bruce in AAA even if he has a GREAT spring.

The way i this playing out is (barring injuries) Bruce starting the year at AAA, Patterson and Hopper platooning in CF and Ryan Freel either on the Reds bench as a super utility player or traded before the team breaks camp.

I can't see Baker lobbying for the Reds to sign Patterson if he did not plan on him making the team.

Unfortunately, that is probably what is going to happen. Maybe in June, after Patterson and his .290 OBP, then Bruce will get his shot.

He'll be batting leadoff. Just watch.

Making this all the more strange/infuriating is that Dusty's one of the key players in the demise of Patterson's patience at the plate.

God, I hate that man (Dusty, not Corey... most Cubs fans harbor a grudge against K-Pat, but me, I just feel sorry and think about what might have been).

Look on the bright side, you won't have to worry about him clogging the bases.

It may be June by the time Bruce gets his shot, but I doubt it will have anything to do with OBP

If I'm a Reds fan, I start my severe vomiting any time now.

Someone keep Baker away from the team's top prospects, they don't need his "help".
