    Re: MVP Baseball hitting question

i don't think it is all timing just most...i think sometimes if you try and hit a ball completely opposite of where it came from (i.e. a high outside pitch you try to hit down and inside) you will get bad wood on it and hit a dribbler or wiff completely the pitch speeds seem really fast too so it looks pretty good

      Re: MVP Baseball hitting question

I like the batting angle that MVP has. It's actually more like facing a real pitcher, because when you're a hitter standing in the box, you do not have a straight on view of the pitch. The catcher does, but the hitter does not. Of course the viewing angle is across the plate on the opposite side, but it's a great way to see the break of some pitches.

I'm just hoping some of these release dates get moved up...March 12 seems like a year away.

There are positives to seeing it off center. For one, it depicts the Lefty verses lefty disadvantage. This is because with a LH batter the camera will be slightly left and should be easier to hit RHP because you can see more arm action. Also, I like it because rather than looking at the pitch from the chest level you are more from the waist I think (at least as I remember) . I think this is a better plane for seeing the pitch.

I think that it is much more realistic too. When you hit obviously you see the pitch from the side. I bat Left and have a hell of a time hitting lefties because the pitches tail away from me and i don't pick them up as well. This game actually looks like it incoporates that.

Steve said there are 3 or 4 hitting views. One is almost directly behind home plate. Some of the videos at SGN show it.

If my understanding of the batting pitching interface in MVP is right there will be very few strike outs. All you have to do is time the pitch and make contact. There is no bat aiming and this is understandable because EA feels they have to dumb down a game to appeal to a large fan base. At least the other games will have a more realistic batting pitching interface.

OK, but take for example ASB where you have to swing before they pitch while trying to aim the cursor. I dont think the cursor is entirely the answer either. Again, the zones are supposed to come into play so it really puts the birden on the pitcher to hit their spots. I guess by doing this the CPU is hitting better at certain zones to an extent for you. When you have a cursor you kind of have to question the point of having zones. I think it can be done the way EA is going. I think it likely is better but its a first run and they may not pull it off. Just give it a chance. Im kind of looking forward to it.

Well, since Steve played a demo of the game he would be able to answer the hitting question for us. Is it just timing or is aiming a part of it? Plus he would be able to let us know if strikeouts were a big part of the game. Too bad he isn't answering wuestions anymore on the game. I hope there are strikeouts as well. I wish someone like Pedro or the"The Unit" could actually strike out 10-14 batters during some games. Most games make strikeout numbers very unrealistic. 1-6 per game and the pitchers tire in the 6th inning. I hope MVP gets this right as well. It would be nice to use Pedro vs. the Yanks and mow down 12 batters.

ASB had way too many strikeouts last year on the hardest level. I averaged at least a strikeout per inning with all my
pitchers, though they did tire pretty easily. The computer swung at nearly everything and missed alot.

It seems to me on the movies that this game has the pitching cursor showing where the pitcher is aiming. Does anyone know if we will be able to turn this off or if there is a "bluff" mode?
