Re: Pedro Feliz signs with the Phillies
I'm digging the signing. 3B was a black hole for us last season, with Helms being terrible all around, Nunez fielding well but being unable to hit a lick, and Dobbs being an average fielder who couldn't hit lefty pitching. Feliz doesn't hit for average and he doesn't walk, but he'll likely hit 7th and I don't want the #7 hitter walking anyway.
What he does do is defend extremely well at 3B, while putting the ball in play (70 K in 557 AB last season) with some pop (20 HR). He also hit .310 with RISP last season, another area where we've struggled in recent seasons. Poor hitting with RISP and too many K's have plagued our lineup for the last few seasons, so a guy like Feliz is a welcome addition.
Figure Dobbs will hit against tough RHP and I like the move. I don't think Pedro Feliz is the second coming or anything, but 3B was such a mess last season that almost any move represents an upgrade and this is better than I was anticipating.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

Re: Pedro Feliz signs with the Phillies
He has a .288 career OBP! He's gotta be right at the bottom of the league in OBP. His .433 SLG isn't good enough to make up for his incredibly low OBP. Basically, he's one of the worst offensive players in the league. He gives you solid defense but it's not good enough to make up for his offense.
Our lineup was good enough to win with Nunez at 3B last season who did absolutely nothing at the plate while fielding a very good 3B. If Feliz was going to hit higher than 7th I'd have a problem, but for what we need him to do, I like the signing.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

Why the Phillies gave Feliz two years is beyond me. Although, 20 homers should be a given in Citizens this year.http://flotn.blogspot.com

The Giants have been said to be interested in Joe Crede and Morgan Ensberg to replace Feliz at 3rd. They would like to keep Aurilia as a platoon partner with Dan Ortmeier at 1B.Comment

I'm gonna start a new thread...Feliz for MVP...lets see how that goes.
I think this is a good pickup. Feliz will have a lot more protection in our order than he did in SF, and the bank can make anyone a good hitter...Even 2007 MVP Jimmy Rollins...
The Phillies have a solid infield now...
Can we venture to say the best in the NL...MLB possibly...?Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: Pedro Feliz signs with the Phillies
LOL. I doubt adding Feliz over a Dobbs/Nunez platoon improves the infield by that much. They were great before-hand, but adding Feliz isn't much improvement (if any) over a Dobbs/Nunez platoon.Last edited by Sandman42; 01-28-2008, 11:07 PM.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Guys punking his offense here is laughable. How many great hitting FA 3rd basemen do you think are out there?Comment
