Then why are you comparing them? Seems like saying someone had a better run than someone else is comparing, but maybe it's just me.

I think someone as knowledgeable as you about baseball history would understand that people may have opinions that may or may not be true. There is no way to compare them, so if someone says they think Pedro had the best 5 year run in history, it is a subjective opinion. There is no way to call him ignorant for being wrong. He may know history better than you and still have that opinion, because as you said, there is no way to compare different eras. So perhaps despite your supreme knowledge of baseball history that none of us know, you, sir, are the one who is making ignorant claims.

I'm talking guys that are low 20's, not guys like Peavy who are still considered young. We all know how good he is.

I'm talking unproven guys with great upside.

For me, it's still King Felix. He is still very young and raw, but he has shown just what he is capable of on a few occasions. IMO, noone in the league has the electricity his pitches have. He just needs to learn to control it. If he does, and he stays healthy, he's gonna be the ace in Seattle for the next 10-15 years (barring FA/trade).

I know Felix does have some experience, so he is already shown his promise, but he still impresses me more than the other youngins (Kershaw, Hughes, etc.)

Who do you guys think is the most promising young pitcher?
According to Yankee fans I have talked to Jake Peavy can't even hold Phil Hughes jock.

Yes because 1 or two Yankee fans speak for the rest of them.

Heh, I remember last season reading that stuff. I'm critical of Peavy only because he can't seem to do much in postseason play. He's still young though and will probably break out of it.

I'd have him on my team!

I'd take Peavy in a split second but yes his postseason experience (or lack there of) is baffling. He's been atrocious.

Pitched one game with broken ribs. People seem to forget that one.

He's only had what 3 appearances post season?

Homer pick of Felix. He's got 2.5 seasons in the majors already despite being younger than most others mentioned in this thread.

Oh well for those Yankee fans because Jake Peavy will always be better than Phil Hughes. Mark it.

Pedro was phenomenal, but come on. Its not the best five year span ever.
                            #1. See Sandy Koufax: 1962-1966

#2 And better yet...see Walter Johnson:ANY SEASON(go ahead, pick any 5) from 1910-1919. Seriously, go look it up. His 1913 season alone is the best season ever for a pitcher. Pedro was great, but no one ever dominated like Johnson and Koufax.

People in this day and age think baseball started in 1987. Too many people think modern day anything is the "best ever", no matter the sport.
Charro? What the hell is Charro.

And I'm sure you were alive in 1919 in the midst of the dead ball I might remind you and saw him pitch. Koufax I might give you some credit on as you might have been alive to see it. Pedro on the other hand has his stretch in the middle of the steroid era.

Good try though, but next time before you go off making an *** out of yourself you should actually do more than just look at numbers to base all of your opinions on.

Johnson pitched in the deadball era so I don't see how this be made as a relevant argument.
