I dont know if the throw meter is a good idea, but for me the pitcher meter is the greatest idea ever for a baseball game. I hate pitching in current baseball games, it puts me to sleep. I love to have control over the outcome, even if I have to sacrifice some realism.

In the interview it says about testing Guerrero's arm or Catalanatto's arm. So EA is obviously at least aware there should be a difference in arm strength. Therefore it should be considered at least attempted until proven whether implemented well or not by playing the game.

Re: Just read the MVP interview and...

I haven't played Triple Play, but it makes sense to me to be able to risk accuracy on a throw by adding mustard. That truly is how it happens in real baseball.

For instance, if a center fielder threw it to third merely to prevent the 2nd base runner from trying to advance then he wants to make damn sure his throw is accurate. It doesn't have to burn in there because he's not trying to throw the guy out! Then of course there are cases when he IS trying to throw a guy out and he better put some UMPH on it or else.

That's it, case closed on the throwing meter. Verdict: GOOD IDEA, should be in every game. Actually, I like the sound of TP's selection method better since it shouldn't take user skill to select between the two pitches, you should just be execute the command differently to make it throw harder, like just hold the button a little longer, or maybe hold another button while you press the throw button. It shouldn't be a challenge to execute the command. A meter might be tricky to use.

Note: the throwing meter is pretty much a copy of the same feature from Sega's Home Run King last year. Check it out it's a great game. It had a very realistic pitcher interface compared to the other games. You never saw your placement cursor (you had to estimate like a real pitcher would) and missing your meter screwed up your accuracy.

Last word: unlike some of you guys I DO trust EA. Madden is an awesome game and seems to me far more realistic than other games due to the player movement. I'm expecting MVP to be a super solid game just like Madden, although I too think they surely won't get everything right their first time through.

and not only that but making a risky harder throw and causing the error yourself by deciding to fill up your meter all the way is better than the computer randomly having your gold glove second baseman field a ball 20 feet from 1b and make an overthrow with Mo Vaughn chugging down the line...when he would really make a nice easy throw and get him out every time...what i'm saying is random errors suck

I will say this about EA, they seem to have learned from their mistakes, and are trying to honestly make a better game.

                            Side note:

TP was (I believe) the first baseball game where the harder you pressed the button, the harder they threw, but it could also lead to errors. The fielding meter is just a visable representation of this concept, imo, and a good one at that. I wish all baseball games had pressure sensitive throws, like FB and BasketBall games do.

I still think the throwing meter is a waste. One poster said he rather have human controlled errors. But as I pointed out before, if it were truly human controlled errors. Then while learning the throwing meter you should commit at lease 5-10 errors. And the game is'nt gonna let you do so. So it will still IMO be a randomly generated thing.
All I'm saying is that the throwing meter is no different from the TPs that had aggressive and conservative throws. Thats all it is.

But, before you start flamin me, just know, I'm still getting the game. I too hope that EA has learned from its mistakes. But it has yet to be proven.
