I disagree here. Anyone with baseball sense also knows that Sosa's arm is very strong, he played the ball quickly off the wall, planted and unloaded in a hurry. Jones is fast, but just because he has speed doesn't mean that he should beat that strong a throw from an arm that strong and already be eating a sandwich and doing crossword puzzles when the throw comes in.
I do agree, however, that if outfielders continually throw out runners going for singles, then that's a problem. Trying to stretch a hit into a double against someone with a pretty good, not the best, but pretty good arm is always risky.

Do me a favor gambit816,
Watch that movie again. Now when Sosa gets the ball, click your pause button on the movie. Look in the PIP baserunner window. See where Andrew Jones is? Not even at first yet and Sosa's got the ball!
No way that's realistic. I don't care how strong his arm is that's not the point although I do think the throws are too rocket like in the movies. The problem is the basepaths are covered with quicksand.

Ok, I read your post, and I need you to do me a favor: are you saying that a ball hit that sharply never gets to the outfield wall that quickly? That it's impossible for an outfielder to touch the ball until the baserunner actually gets to the first base bag? Here's another point: it looks to me that the outfield was shifted to the right to begin with, allowing Sosa to get to the ball that much quicker. Again, I agree that people getting thrown out at first is a problem, but just because Jones has speed doesn't mean he'll never hit a ball that gets to the wall that fast, nor does it mean he will be able to stretch every shot into a double. Just my opinion. I know we're all just hungry for something to talk about until we can all start playing.

I didn't say it's impossible for an outfielder to touch the ball before the runner gets to first. I just thought on that play, it was a sure double for a runner with good speed. I've seen other clips where the runners seem to advance well enough. It's not that big a deal. It's the thrown out at first thing that has me worried.
In a few days, we'll all have our chance to try it out.

You guys can argue about hitting situations and Sosa's great arm all day. But the real factor is whether the rocket armed outfielders get toned down or adjusted in the final build.
85% Beta gives me hope.
We will find out next Tuesday.
fyi- Andrew Jones must have been watching the ball thinking it was a homerun because he's way too quick to be gunned down at second on a shot that deep.
